Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain has chosen Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate. She would be the first woman to serve on a Republican presidential ticket.

This is a VERY good sign that the McCain campaign is worried. Everyone knew that if he picked Romney or Ridge, it meant that his campaign felt secure about his chances, and that if he picked a lesser known, "surprise" choice, that would indicate that they needed to do something to "ramp up" the campaign............

Palin is just about the only shot left in his locker. He has to eat into Obama's support, and the only way he will do that is go for the womens vote. However, that logic will backfire, there is more foundation to the Democratic womans vote than conventional Repoublican theory expounds. And be under no illusion, Hillary will come out all guns blazing, as its now in Hillary's interests to make sure Pbama is elected. Palin will have her work cut out to counter that ...
He might get a 2% bounce from that, but it will wither away over time because GOP still "dont get it" as to what this election is all about, and I dont think they ever will until Nov 5.
- 44 votes
Who? McCain must be kidding. So much for McCain's talk about Obama's lack of experience. More hypocrisy and shallow politics.
Palin would be a heart beat away from the presidency, especially with McCain's mental capacity clearly fading and likely his health to follow. McCain's father died at age 69, and he is now 72, three years longer than his father.
- 49 votes
McCain picked someone with Executive experience who had served as Governor (something Obama, Biden, and McCain don't have).
She wasn't afraid to stand up to corrupt officials in her own party linked too closely to the oil industry, instituting tough ethics laws.
She's fought against earmarks and irresponsible spending. She even sold the Alaska government's private jet to save taxpayer dollars.
Sounds like the character of someone I wouldn't mind having in the White House.
Seems awful sexist of some of you to look at nothing other than her gender. It's like you're saying, "there are no qualified women, you just pick a woman to get Hillary supporters".
You Democrats are pushing back womens' progress several decades. shameful.

Carl W You are quite obviously as much if not more out of touch with the whole political scene as McCain and the Republican party! Palin is pro-Life which proves that she is not listening to this nations want's and way of life. Pro-Lifers and Right to Lifers are only concerned about Their rights to YOUR LIFE and the right of women to chose what they want to do with THEIR reproductive organs! The choice of Palin for V.P. is ridiculous, this woman would make a HORRIBLE president! no if's ands or but's! This is proof positive that McCain is desperate as well as out of touch! As far as Obama's and Bidens experience and leadership, well I would bank on them and risk MY OWNLIFE to back what they stand for! Any one who crap's on Joe Biden and discounts what he has gone through and how well he has served this country has his or her heads stuck in the sand and refuses to give credit where credit is due! Wake up and pay attention!

I actually LOVE this choice!! I feel kinda bad for the McCain camp though... Hey, maybe that's it!
They are vying for pity votes...

McCain's main criticism of Obama is that he has a short resume, that he doesn't have enough experience to be the leader we need. Obama chose Biden, a man with great experience, in part to counter this claim. Now this 72 year old man chooses an unknown woman with hardly any experience to be his running mate. Please understand, I'm glad he has joined the 21st century in choosing a woman, but it is hard to see this as anything other than pandering to the female vote, specifically the Hillary supporters angry at Obama. And of course we have the delicious irony of those Republicans who were outraged that anyone could vote for Hillary just because she was a woman making the same argument for Ms Palin.
- 27 votes
I think they're all worried. Today, Obama is not worried because he is basking in the glow of the adoration of his speech. Next week he'll be worried as hell.

Palin will make a great VP, just as soon as she figures out what the VP does! Check out youtube and search for her interview:
"Gov. Sarah Palin on the Wooten scandal and VP"
Your jaw will drop just before 3:00 mark. AIRHEAD! Bwaaaahaaaahaaaa! Silly Sarah! The Vice President is supposed to destroy the country and shoot people in the face while the President twiddles his thumbs.
- 22 votes
I don't get it. I was never going to vote for McCain, but I don't get it. I was worried about Romney or Leiberman, but I don't get it. Are they giving up? Is it over already? This is sad, I love it, but I don't get it.
- 21 votes
He will not be worried by an individual who was a town mayor 3 years ago, is married to the oil industry, is under investigation for corruption, and needs to justify why she should be considered a potential Commander in Chief - and she will have to do the latter as McCain is 72, and will be 80 at the end of two terms. McCain has also put away the Commander in Chief question re Obama - there is no way will McCain want to raise it now ......
That is not the credentials of a "safe" choice or "inspired" choice. That is the credentials of the McCain team going for the women's vote in a very risky way, because the latter is the only chance McCain now has of eating into Obama's vote. There was already a 6 point bounce in Obama vote before all the Clinton speeches, let alone last night. Hillary will come out with all guns blazing as she needs to get Obama elected for her own political survival, a fact I suspect Palin is aware of.
So we will have Hillary V Palin, and McCain V Biden, with Obama out there continuing to build his vote. Republican risky choices have worked before, this one will not, because the others were backed by the Republican slime machine, the latter is now discredited.
McCain's boxed in, still fighting for sure, but he's on the ropes now, and Biden will not let him off the ropes.

Deja vu. Shades of Dan "potatoe-head" Quayle. Remember some bubble-headed giggler at the GHWB GOP convention gushing"he's so cute, girls will vote for him"? Yeah, just what we need to run the country...into the ground. And in case any of us who would prefer Hillary Clinton are tempted, look at her anti-choice, NRA, ultra-conservative pedigree, and be very afraid.

An investigation is not an indictment. Just because somebody that doesn't like you accuses you of something doesn't mean you should suffer because of it.
There is a vetting process. I don't think anybody on the Republican side would have let something like that slip through. I am sure they have thoroughly investigated it and will fast track all the answers that are needed.
I like Obama for some reasons and McCain for others. Ultimately it doesn't matter what I think at this point because I am in California and it's pretty certain where our electoral votes are going, so I don't think about it much. I just like watching the spectacle of it all!

Seems like the last act of a desperate man.
Yup even more when you consider he and his team were looking at this terrifying picture of their opposition in full voice - click-hold the left mouse button and drag around to see it all - its a magnificent 360 photo of the stadium last night, and whichever Way you cut it, that's the image of the last night of the Dem Convention - 84,000 ..... click full screen when you get the photo up.

My first reaction to this choice was just like see Anna Nicole Smith and billionaire J. Howard Marshal. This is a desperate act to regain some life. The Dems should go on the attack. This is old school politics, "Any thing to get a vote!"
What we need to understand that Obama has created such a stir, its incredible! Our country is screaming for change. If he does not win, our country has are ready spoken.
With this pick, it show that we will be in for more games and tactics from the Reps.

criticisms for Palin so far: Potential scandal about maybe firing someone to influence someone working for them and married to her sister, she says she did not do it. Biden so far: Plagairist(many times),Proven and admitted. Palin:inexperience- just 2 years as governor(exec job btw) Obama:4 years as senator, 2 of which were spent on the campaign trail and 90% votes of "present" on non controversial laws, the rest were "absent".Obama/Biden 0 exec experience-McCain/Palin 2 years exec experience.
I won't even mention which ones were and are lawyers(same as everyone of their leadership btw) and have never held a real job of any kind. How do lawyers relate to ordinary americans? they sue them. Vote Obama/Biden because these guys are ordinary or know what average folks go through right? Please, wrong as usual Dems.
Wow, McCain chooses a younger and newer, more inexperience (less than a 2-year term governor) and less familiar face, candidate than the one—Barack Obama—he argued against throughout this election, and one with ethics issues that is being state investigated. The ethics allegation is she used her powers to punish a man who was assumed to have abused her sister. This doesn't excuse her nor is she above the law and should take legal matters in her hands and get away with it, as most republicans feel they are entitled to do. Bush is perfect example we can refer to. Commoners like us can't. What is the purpose of our judicial system, or does Palin knows like some of us do that the system is screwed up, is imbalanced, and don't work the same for everyone? What a risk.
Look out Cindy, womanizer McCain might just replace you. This is not exactly the perfect VP choice for someone with a reputation for being a womanizer and for other reasons. Additionally, MSNBC news moderators said that if McCain is choosing a woman solely to get Hillary supporters' votes is condescending and disrespectful to Hillary Clinton and her supporters (albeit supporters, particularly women, might feel otherwise). Nonetheless, Palin is not a replacement of Hillary Clinton, and I didn't even support HRC. But we'll see, the media is known to be wrong.
God forbid if something should happen to McCain and she has to take over. My concern is does she have enough leadership skills to step in and effectively govern the country, though she has an 80% approval rating in Alaska. Governor, VP, and President requires distinct leadership skills, some of which necessitated for President, that Palin don't necessarily possess. At least the other way around, the probabilities of Biden's ability to do so is more promising.
This is a VERY good sign that the McCain campaign is worried.
I totally agree with the above assessment. It is not only a sign McCain that campaign is worried, but he needs a publicity lift also. As far as I am concerned, McCain is seeking a celebrity status he claims Obama has and showboats in front of large-size audiences.

Wow this article is disturbing. Red flags should be going up all over the place here. This is a woman who is leading the way of getting a natural gas line built. O.k.I see that. What I also see is that her husband is a production on the north slope the same place the gas line is involved with. Then the article goes on to say that she led an investigation that has gotten the the republican chairman to resign over "conflict of interest". So her getting a gas line built with the same company or place that her husband is employed with as a supervisor isn't a conflict of interest as well? I am inclined to think that her husband will get some some kick back or pay raise or something out of this. This is blatant. Also this is a desperate plea to get women (especially Hillary Clinton supporters) on his side. What a crock. I know I am not the only one who sees the conflict. But hey I am a democrat so this only helps the team. Go Obama / Biden.

I'm afraid that's just what, the 'die hard, - let's get a woman in there, before a black man, before I die' mentality may be thinking. And that's what McCain and crew may be counting on.
- 5 votes
I totally agree that McCain is desperate. Regarding the other statement you wrote, McCain's attacks over the weeks did impact on Obama, perhaps not his reputation, as you wrote. Obama's poll numbers had fell below McCain's. But they are slowly increasing again. As of today, he has a 6 percentage lead. He still have thousands of supporters, 80 thousand that attended the Democratic National Convention, and thousands more that had to be turned away, because the coliseum couldn't house any additional people. Overall, McCain's VP choice is an attempt to win over Hillary supporters (some of which he will) and additional others. Here we go again. If in debates, Biden uses aggression, we're guaranteed to hear cries of sexism and man bullying woman. If he doesn't attack back, critics will label him weak and pontificate he's not strong enough to be VP. We have been down this road before. Haven't we? It's strange that women would argue for equal rights and when treated equally, some holler, "Foul play." Do they want to roll up their sleeves and duke it out like a man or what? PMS to the extreme, and please don't argue that crap, this is a sexist statement that degrades women, because it's old and definitely worn out, and is unfitting for the VP job.

You all are hillarious; but you're not one bit suprising... leading off with MSNBC's balanced coverage of both sides in this election. It's been nearly a week since Obama announced that Biden, a true DC Insider, would be his running mate. Nearly a week and MSNBC is still reporting on how ingenious this was. 1 hour later and hardly a note of how good this pick is for America and Republics alike... but plenty of leftist, Dem-speak on how this is pandering and a last minute grasp for hope in the McCain camp. You want to talk about reaching? BIDEN... someone who spent months bashing his new pal, only to turn around and hug/praise and hope that the public forgets all those mean things he said about Obama. Biden and Hillary were right months ago. No foreign policy experience, no character; no substance.
McCain doesn't need to reach for hope. Obama needs to hope the media will continue their hard Dem push and be better hold on tight to those voters... they'll soon see the real Obama when town hall meetings start and he can't just script a perfect reponse.

For those of you who are bad mouthing Joe Biden, let's look at Biden. Let's look at the good he has single-handedly done FOR WOMEN.
Please, any of you, name ONE thing that John McCain has ever done for women, besides picking a beauty queen for his VP (oh, and she is under investigation, and incidently, her husband works for Big Oil...shades of Dick Cheney as VP, huh).
Here are Joe Biden's own words:
I consider the Violence Against Women Act the single most significant legislation that I've authored during my 35-year tenure in the Senate.
Indeed, the enactment of the Violence Against Women Act in 1994 was the beginning of a historic commitment to women and children victimized by domestic violence and sexual assault.
Our nation has been rewarded for this commitment. Since the Act's passage in 1994, domestic violence has dropped by almost 50%, incidents of rape are down by 60%, and the number of women killed by an abusive husband or boyfriend is down by 22%.
Today, more than half of all rape victims are stepping forward to report the crime. And since we passed the Act in 1994 over a million women have found justice in our courtrooms and obtained domestic violence protective orders. – Senator Joe Biden

An obvious attempt to attract Hillary supporters. As a Hillary supporter, I can say that the line about her being a big anti-abortion supporter is not going to win me over!
This is especially true with the new potential problems getting the birth control pill (see The Washington Post.

Arthur-379160. My last comment is in response to yours. I forget how fast these comments can fill up.
GREAT CHOICE, IT SEALS IT FOR SEN. OBAMA
Sen. McCain made a joke about how ugly Chelsea Clinton and Janet Reno and never apologized.
Sen. McCain made a joke about women wanting for enjoyment to be beastly raped and never apologized.
Sen. McCain admits to several affairs.
Sen. McCain was engaged to the heiress Cindy before his divorce from the crippled first wife was finalized.
Now we are to believe he respects women?
ROTFLOL
This is in hopes of gaining women voters. It won't work. women voters think about the issues and not the gender when deciding who meets their needs. You got to meet there issues. Those who claim this changes their minds are lying. They were already Republicans. I hope the investigation is not a black eye to women when completed as it will set all women back.

Just to copy and paste from a piece by Domenico Montanaro on MSNBC:
"She was described by the Anchorage Press as "a small-town, angel-faced mother of four, an avid hunter and a fisher with a killer smile who wears designer glasses and heels, and hair like modern sculpture, who's taking it to the boys every so softly."
On the personal side, she played high school basketball and her team won the state championship in 1982. She was nicknamed "Sarah Barracuda." According to the Almanac, she was Miss Wasilla in 1984 and competed in the Miss Alaska contest. She eloped with her high school boyfriend."

As an Alaskan woman and a Sarah Palin supporter, I am caught between a rock and a hard place. I really don't want to lose Sarah Palin as governor, nor can I vote for Senator Obama. Governor Palin's conservatism and pro-life stance are part of the reason why I voted for her as governor.
Many people insist that a woman have the right to choose. Well, Sarah Palin chose ------- to carry her Down's Syndrome baby to term, to love and cherish him, and to raise him to realize his full potential.
Governor Palin is personable and is comfortable with people of all walks of life, from those of the highest position to ordinary folk living their every day life. She is an intelligent, articulate woman, who will quickly gain the knowledge, skills, and familiarity with presidential duties needed in case she suddenly is called upon to serve her country as president.

So Fairbanks tell me this - will you be willing to take care of the babies that are born to rape victims and aids patients once McCain and Palin get birth control banned? Will you willingly go adopt some of the many unwanted children that are going to be in orphanages? I can understand people believing in pro-life but each woman should have a right to chose. How can you not see that taking away birth control is going to increase the birth rate in a negative way. What are they going to do then- tell women they have to keep the baby and not give it up for adoption? Can you not see that women and young teen girls who get pregnant will resort to going back to the hanger method? By going backwards and taking away birth control is only going to make the situation worse and not better.

In two short years, Sarah Palin moved from small-town mayor to the governor's office. There is NO foreign policy experience here, and minimal governing experience. Is THIS the person we want to become president if something should happen to McCain? I say again, this choice can mean only thing - the McCain campaign is DESPARATE..........

yeah McCain is awesome! if you're into Depends, Fixodent and don't know the difference between Sunni and Shi'a, Iran and Iraq, Google and Outlook, he's your guy. I like how people say that because Palin is a governor she's way better suited than Obama to be president, if Old Man River John suddenly croaks. OF COURSE!!! I mean look at the astounding masterpiece George W Dumbass, the former Governor of Please Mess With and Secede Texas, has done. I mean how could anybody doubt McCain - Palin. Total Dream Team.
If they somehow pull this off, there is no more America, we'll be relegated to the back of the class. We might even be downgraded to third world status.

Palin may very well be a good Governor and an excellent human being. However, this may be too many firsts. She isn't experienced nor educated enough to hold this level of office. She has a BA in Communications from UI. She been a Governor for two years. That doesn't mean she isn't intelligent by any means, but we're talking about the second most powerful job on the planet. She is obviously very driven and very likeable, but I would have to overlook a lot of weaknesses to consider this a strong choice.I am happy he chose a woman. I just wish he had chosen a different woman, like Rice maybe.

Fairbanks-
We haven't heard a lot from Alaskans about their take on their governor, thank you. Most of us here are relying Wikipedia and hearsay to judge the governor. If you could offer policy examples of why you support Palin (or don't) that would be great. Thanks for your contribution!

It doesn't matter that this move is patently non-sensical. He could potentially get millions of newly charged votes from the republican side (with no need for Hillary supporters) who if nothing else, simply want to join in playing a lob the grenade GAME without real thought or care for the consequences. He is pandering to the idiot vote and there are millions. He is using her and she's letting him. I know people truly support him and his ideals, but I only see him as a true DISGRACE.

His new wife must be nervous, but maybe not, she knows he won't make it anyway, and if he did, there's always alimony, but wait, he'll be dead soon, but then there's, that insurance, and there will be a woman, as president, gee, she'll think, "maybe I'll run too..........

Sarah Pallin is McCain's Dan Quayle. This will go down as one of the dumbest VP pick in history. McCain wants to put a mayor of a town of 6,000 with only 2 years as Gov of Alaska a heartbeat away from the presidency? So much for the "experience" issue. In addition, she has a cloud of scandal over her head. Alaska lawmakers are investigating whether Palin abused her power in firing a public safety commissioner. Alaska lawmakers say they want to know whether Palin was mad at the commissioner for not firing an Alaska state trooper who went through a messy divorce and ongoing child custody battles with Palin's sister. She is also joined at the hip with indicted criminal Ted Stevens. Looks like another GOP crony.
There will be a lot of conservatives who will revolt over this selection because they do not want to hand the national security of the free world over to total novice. McCain is DANGEROUS.
In addition, she does nothing for McCain in terms of the women's-H Clintons vote because she wants to hand over a woman's right to choose over to a bunch of viagra popping old white men who will dictate a woman's reproductive rights if McSame is elected. No Hillary Clinton voter who cares about women's issues is going to vote for this ticket.
No way. No how. No McCain.
- 15 votes
I don't want to diminish the woman's accomplishments, or dive into the deep end of cynicism, but I think voters have to seriously doubt John McCain's ability to lead this country. His campaign is about reacting to every move Obama makes and trying desperately to trump him.
When it comes to women, he picks a woman running mate - not a bad move under the circumstances. But ... this particular woman? A former beauty queen? Wasn't it reported that he had an extra-marital fling with a female lobbyist not too long ago? Didn't I see footage of McCain at Sturgis talking to a mob of bikers, telling them his wife Cindy could enter the topless beauty contest there, and she could be the first First Lady who was also Miss Buffalo Chip? Will he call Palin a @#$% on the campaign trail?
Palin may try to entice Hillary supporters, but she stands opposed to nearly every one of Hillary's political and social positions.
I'm guessing McCain needed someone photogenic on the ticket so somebody would pay attention to him.

I'm curious enough to want to learn lots more about her.
Carl, I agree with you. I'm concerned that Obama, Biden, and McCain don't have any real experience governing. I see she's been a Mayor and a Governor, so she's had to be an administrator. I think we forget that Senators are good at debating policy and sitting in committees and doing tricks with Parliamentary procedure. (That's why I liked Bill Richardson so much.)
Rhonda, thanks for helping me learn about some of her positions. They make her sound good in the ones that count.

Palin has more solid experience than Obama has...What has she done that you are so upset about? Was it the fact that she has fought big oil, or maybe that she sold the private jet that her predecessor bought and decided to fly commercial everywhere she went, It must be the fact that she has no political ambition and she is merely there to do the right thing! I was pretty mad myself when I heard about all the corruption she broke up in the Alaskan Government...If you want change, look to someone with a record of doing so! At least she takes a stand! Obama has the record for present votes in the Senate, people please remember that a present vote means that you don't have what it takes to make a decision, or you don't have the ability to take a stand! "Fairbanks":
What boggles my mind is that you are a WOMAN who is in favor of limiting woman's rights. Like "lilegend" above me pointed out, what about rape victims? What about women who would die carrying a baby to full term? Are the unborn children more important that the emotional, mental, and physical health of the women carrying them? What about the ease with which STDs are transmitted without the use of contraceptives? Do you really want our nation's STD prevalence to increase?! How can you not realize that everything this woman stands for is detrimental to women - and women only?
I am not "pro-abortion." In all truth, I think that aborting a baby is a travesty. But, if I were to get pregnant and then find out that carrying that baby to term would KILL me - I would not want some backwards, backwoods, uninformed, sexist woman telling me that I have to die to save that fetus. No woman should unwillingly die to save a pregnancy. Neither should a woman who was raped be forced to keep that child as a daily reminder of the traumatic and despicable event she experienced.
No women should be told by the government what she can or cannot do to protect herself. If that means she needs birth control to help regulate her endometriosis, so be it. If that means she needs the Plan B pill to prevent a rape-caused pregnancy, so be it. If that means she needs an abortion to save HERSELF, so be it. As long as she is not hurting herself or anyone else, why is it any business but her own? Why must the government try to stick its nose into such personal business as a woman's freaking reproductive organs?!? And why do you think that's okay? I can only assume you are also backwoods and uninformed if you truly think that Ms. Palin would be the best choice for this country. The Pro-Life regulations that she favors do nothing but hold women back. I sound like a crazy feminist right now - I know - but it incenses me when other women are so ignorant that they will vote to limit the rights women have taken so long to get.
- 14 votes
Why do you think that Abortion is the answer...why not try to be a responsible adult? Abortion is a cop out...there are things like adoption? I agree that there are exceptions...but I cant approve of a women's right to make such a mistake over and over again.

Very very classy, fed up voter. Hope you can recognize sarcasm.
But I will answer for you.
Yes, I am happliy married for over 25 years and have two well adjusted children, one a 19 year old son that I do not want drafted by McSHAME into an illegal and an immoral war.
I am well educated with a BA, and I work full time as an analyst for a major corporation.
And no, I have never accepted bribes via the KEATING FIVE, I have never forgotten how many houses I own, and I do not wear $520 shoes.
So, fed up voter, does that answer your nasty little question?
For the rest of you bloggers, see how nasty and personal McCain supporters are. Well of course, they are following their leader, the nastiest Republican of them all, McSHAME.

I think this is a brilliant choice. As for the experience thing, the VERY FIRST qualification for Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces SHOULD BE honorable service in our Armed Forces. How can you command something you've NEVER served in. How can you respect a man who made a trip the middle east and shook the hands of NOT a SINGLE Soldier, Marine or Airman, but he made sure to have his "basketball" cameo done properly. The last time I checked, our Pledge of Allegiance says one nation under GOD, not one nation under ALLAH. This man won't even recite the Pledge of Allegiance or at least he won't say God. If he is the best the Democrats have to offer, then I can't wait to be laughing all night long when the results come in. Not choosing Hillary was the nail in his political coffin, and it WILL come back to haunt him.

McCain is a smart cookie and he has my vote. His VP candidate has more experience than the community organizer running against McCain. Wake up America Obama as President would be a disaster. Watch your money fly out of the window and then try to buy groceries.
Wouldn't it be interesting to hear what Hillary is thinking today?
John McCain - All- American F R A U D.
McCain has been trying to ride the 'war hero' routine for years. He thought if he stayed in the Hanoi Hilton longer than anyone else he would be welcomed back to America with a ticker tape parade. But America was tired about Vietnam and didn't feel he was a hero. He has been frustrated ever since. He thought America owed him for being a POW.
Now the ultimate hypocrisy, after saying "he would rather lose the election than lose the war", he has proven he would rather win the election than do what is correct for the country. He has chosen a completely un-qualified person to be the V.P. He chose her, not because of her qualifications, but because he thinks she will bring the 'women' vote. She has less experience than any other candidate in American history. Would you fell safe with her as the Prez, if McBush dies? This buffoon has shown his true colors, remember this is his first decision as a possible president.
But yet he claims Obama is inexperienced, what a sicko. Retire McBush to the farm, he is done.

Biden is going to pulverize her in a debate. His background is too much for her.

It is unbelievable to me that women want to be treated equal and then when they are women complain about it! What hypocrites, shame on you all for your judgments. She also chose to give her 4 month old special needs child life and not abort it like so many others choose to do.
She is as qualified as Obama a junior senator with no executive experience. If you attack her you attack Obama and his own lack of experience.
She is a Mom she is a Women and she will be Vice President. Women do not let People persuade you to think that a woman can not be Vice President because she is a mother. The funniest thing I herd was that Palin in not in touch with women's issues... did I miss something or is she a woman!
Great Pick!!!!!!!

McCain, are you kidding me right now?? Sarah Palin's experience is about as relevant as pocket lent. I cringe every time someone mentions her paper thin executive experience. Does anyone think that being the Governor of a small state like Alaska prepares you for being a VP, and possibly President if McCain doesn't eat his Wheaties?
If so, then my Mayor has a good shot at the White House considering we have almost as many people in our city as the entire state of ALASKA. Please don't compare her to Hillary Clinton because at least Hillary can command an audience. The fact is, Palin struggles when giving speeches and comes across with slightly nervous energy...don't take my word for it, watch her with your own eyes closely over the next few weeks, she is out of her league, no matter how the media tries to spin this as a good choice. Imagine her in front of Putin or Ahmadinejad!! This is an insult to women because she is being offered as an alternative for Hillary supporters, and not nearly as qualified or charismatic as Clinton.
God forbid something happens to McCain, Sarah Palin would be our president...are you kidding me!?!! Let's be real people, do you think she matches up with the great female leaders of our time?
I would love a viable woman candidate but this is not the right WOMAN. Are you telling me there is no other woman in the GOP with more experience to fill this role. I'm not a Clinton fan but this lady is not even remotely comparable to Hillary, not in experience or stature!!
Again, don't take my word for it...watch Sarah Palin with your own eyes and honestly tell me if she is ready to possibly lead the most powerful country in the free world. A woman in the White House is way overdue...but this is not the woman!

If anyone wondered if McCain is qualified to be the President, this should answer that question. I think this makes it official - he is a M O R O N.

Before the Palin announcement 25 to 35% of Hillary supporters were voting for McCain over Obama. Now, I bet it will be closer to 50 or 60 %
Susan Miller, your remark is so off the mark. You must think a lot Hillary supporters are really simple minded. Well, I have news for you, we are too smart to fall for a gesture like this.
Many people insist that a woman have the right to choose. Well, Sarah Palin chose ------- to carry her Down's Syndrome baby to term, to love and cherish him, and to raise him to realize his full potential.
Exactly, Fairbanks-Woman, Ms. Palin made a choice to have her child because she lives in a country where women are currently free to choose! (By the way, I think she made the best choice, too, but I don't believe anyone has the right to force women to choose their way.)
And McCain says Obama doesn't have enough experience! Palin may be a wonderful person, she may even be developing into a good governor after 2 years on the job, but I don't want her next in line to a President who is in his 70s!!! It's obvious that the only reason he picked a person so lacking in experience, after his having said repeatedly that Obama does not have enough, is that she is a woman -- and that is not only disingenuous, but sexist!!!
The best candidate should be picked, regardless of gender, race, etc. I can't believe there aren't better qualified women in all of the Republican party. Perhaps none of the others would agree to run with him.
Thankfully, I believe most people will see through this and it will actually boost support for the two most qualified in this election: Obama-Biden.

Even if your BS were true, God was tacked onto the pledge as a political stunt. It does not belong there.
McCain is no more a war hero than John Kerry was. When the GOP attacked his military record, they gave up the right to be taken seriously when they tout McCain's.
- 5 votes
The truth about me, not that I expect you to care, but you may feel the same.
I'm a life long Democrat. I voted for John Edwards in the N.H. primary. I believe that some Republicans voted for Hillary in the primaries to mess up the election so the Republicans would win in November. They thought if Obama won the candidacy he would lose. I was not happy with Obama as our choice. I felt he might be great for race relations in this country, which do need some work. But, I was more concerned with the War, environment, economy, and so many other priorities. Race, was not in the top 10 problems the country is facing. I was thrilled with the choice of Joe Biden, who has always been a watchdog. But now that McBush has made his VP choice, I think I can finally sleep better, knowing our country will be saved from the rightwing nutbags. Whoo hoo

The Dems couldn't even select the "best candidate" for the Prez, so please don't cast these aspersions towards Palin. At least she is experienced as a CEO, BO is a hack state congressman, has less than 200 days as a US Senator, has very questionable ties to radical religious groups and anit-government types and mobsters. Are those the qualifications you hold out as the standards? I'll take the McCain/Palin ticket in a heartbeat ahead of the Rock Star kid and Snarling Joe.

Gipper1, you were half right-we will pick the most qualified-McCain and Palin.
Oh, and Obama doesn't have a lick of experience.

I think this is a brilliant choice. As for the experience thing, the VERY FIRST qualification for Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces SHOULD BE honorable service in our Armed Forces. How can you command something you've NEVER served in.
Wait Ray N, first you say selecting Palin was a brilliant choice, then you say that to be Commander in Chief the first qualification should be service in the armed forces. Gee, I don't believe Palin has ever been in the military. So, I guess now that you know that you must think choosing her was not so brilliant.
Oh, I guess you must also think ALL of the following Presidents should never have been Commander in Chief, since none of them served in the armed forces:
- John Adams
- John Quincy Adams
- Martin Van Buren
- Grover Cleveland
- William H. Taft
- Woodrow Wilson
- Warren G. Harding
- Calvin Coolidge
- Herbert Hoover
- Franklin D. Roosevelt
-Bill Clinton
In my opinion, niether McCain nor Palin should be President, but it has nothing to do with whether or not they served in the military.

McCain has flipped-flopped from the "experience" issues. As a woman, I am excited for her, however, McCain does not support equal pay for equal work. McCain and Palin are conservatives. Are we going to back to the back alley days? No thanks! Even God gives us a choice.

Obama doesn't have a lick of experience.
Brent-320354, if you do just a little research you will see that Obama not only has more government experience than Palin, he also has more than Bush2 did when he became President. (Not to mention more intelligence and good judgement than Bush2, too!)
I loved it last night when Al Gore pointed out that Obama's experience paralleled Abraham Lincoln's pre-Presidential experience almost exactly. Let me quote it here:
"Before he entered the White House, Abraham Lincoln's experience in elective office consisted of eight years in his state legislature in Springfield, Illinois, and one term in Congress, during which he showed courage and wisdom to oppose the invasion of another country in a war that was popular when it started but later condemned by history.
"The experience that Lincoln's supporters valued most in that race was his powerful ability to inspire hope in the future at a time of impasse.
"He was known chiefly as a clear thinker and a great orator with a passion for justice and a determination to heal the deep divisions of our land.
"He insisted on reaching past partisan and regional divides to exalt our common humanity.
"In 2008, once again, we find ourselves at the end of an era with a mandate from history to launch another new beginning.
"And once again, we have a candidate whose experience perfectly matches an extraordinary moment of transition.
"Barack Obama had the experience and wisdom to oppose a popular war based on faulty premises.
"His leadership experience has given him a unique capacity to inspire hope in the promise of the American dream of a boundless future.
"His experience has also given him genuine respect for different views and humility in the face of complex realities that cannot be squeezed into the narrow compartments of ideology.
"His experience has taught him something that career politicians often overlook: that inconvenient truths must be acknowledged if we are to have wise governance."
I will feel much more secure with Obama-Biden in office over Bush-Cheney or McCain-Palin.
P.S. The full transcript of Gore's speech is at http://edition.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/08/28/gore.transcript/. If you missed it, you there's a link there to a video of it.

Woah, I apologize for not catching that was a satirical video and will gladly remove the comment if I can figure out how.
If I cannot figure out how to remove the comment, then I fully retract any misconceptions that I in anyway condone the continued use of the video as evidence of John McCain's ability to serve as the President of the United States. It was not labeled obviously as satire as I had to expand the description, that however is no excuse I simply inform you what I had to do to verify it was satire after it was pointed out to me by M. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! What a lame choice McCain has chosen. We all know why, right? Does he think Americans across the country are that naive and/or ignorant in knowing why he picked her? Obama will be our next leader, so we can all stop chatting about this news. His team have played their cards right on where McCain is trying to bluff his way through without a good poker face on. Alaska pipeline, women votes (hardly), pitiful political experience...HELL...I should have run!

wow, is it really a satire? sorry I rushed to conclusion - just too shocking.
How does one retract comments anyway?
There's no question John McCain is getting a free ride from the mainstream press. But with the power of YouTube and the blogosphere, we can provide an accurate portrayal of the so-called Maverick. We can put the brakes on his free ride!
Since we first released The Real McCain a year ago, our REAL McCain series has garnered close to 2 million views, with over 13,000 comments and tens of thousands more in petition signatures! Clearly, John McCain's record is something the public wants to discuss, and yet the corporate media is doing NOTHING to present the truth. We feel obliged to continue countering the mainstream media's love of McCain. And so we thought it was high time for a sequel: The Real McCain 2.

"Here is the story right from CNN - McCain is trying to sew up the Eskimo vote."- M.White Bear
Ha, that makes me laugh. The majority of Alaska Native people are democrats. John McCain should get his info straight, Eskimos hail from Canada, not Alaska. Alaska's tribal people like to refer to themselves as Alaskan Native people. To be called an Eskimo is an insult.
A small group of Alaskan Natives did vote for Sarah Palin when she ran for governor. Her husband Todd is part Alaskan Native. So in the region where is relatives are from they mainly voted for her.

As a woman that has enjoyed politics, traveled many parts of the world, I find this HORRIFIC!!!
First--It shows McCain does NOT understand the difference between a WORLD CLASS education and serving on a City Council???
Second--Women will NOT vote just because she has the SAME parts as US!!
I am sooo angry! She is a beauty pagent queen just like McCain's wife!! I know more about world politics than her!! McCain has made our election system a soap opera to the world and a mockery out of our college education system!!
Hillary, you were RIGHT of course, NO WAY McCain!!

Charity B.
actually it was Jack Cafferty on CNN who said that. It was funny. He used the word Eskimo.
Alaskan Native people do use the word "Eskimo". In Canada we use the word "Inuit". Actually Alaskan native people are the only ones that use "Eskimo" all other (northern) indigenous people use "Inuit" worldwide. In Canada we also have "First Nations people" which Americans call "Native Americans". I know about this because I happen to be an Inuit from Nunavut and I'm married to a First Nations woman, we live in N.H. Yes, we consider "eskimo" as insulting, but Alaskans are not offended by it's use. Personally I wish the Alaskans would use the word Inuit so that people would know we are the same peoples. Michael - Inuk.

Am I the only person who noticed John McCain every so often leering at her (Sarah Palin) ass as she was accepting the VP nomination today. It's just another sign that John McCain only thinks of women in one capacity. If I was Cindy McCain, I'd be worried about being replaced. He's known for upgrading wives -- he's done it before.

My mother is Alaskan Native from Tuntutuliak, and my older brothers are in the Alaskan based singing group Pamyua which promote the Yupik culture and our African roots and I,they, would never ever use the word Eskimo.
I know many people in this state who take great offense to the word. Although I do understand what you are trying to say, I think that most people, Alaskan Native people, would be and are greatly offended to be called Eskimo.

To Mark L:
You said: "Why do you think that Abortion is the answer...why not try to be a responsible adult? Abortion is a cop out...there are things like adoption? I agree that there are exceptions...but I cant approve of a women's right to make such a mistake over and over again.
In case you were referring to my post, I wanted to clear some things up. And even if you weren't, this might help you understand where many women that are Pro-Choice are coming from.
First of all, Pro-Choice does not mean "Pro-Abortion." It means exactly what it says - Pro-CHOICE. It means that someone supports a woman having the right to choose what goes on in her "nether-regions" versus the government making the decision for her. It has come to encompass not just abortion but also contraception (including the various types of birth control pills and IUD-type devices as well as the Plan B pill) because so many Right-to-Lifers want to rid the country of those as well.
Now, you question why being a "responsible adult" isn't enough of an answer. That won't cut it for the people who are refused condoms or "family planning" methods at their local pharmacy because the pharmacist is Pro-Life. Contraceptives aren't just for sluts who are too concerned with themselves to have a baby - married couples use contraceptives, women with endometriosis often take birth control pills to help with the pain [I am one of those women and I have used birth control since I was 16 because of my medical issues, not because I was having sex], people who are not married but want to have sex responsibly use contraceptives. Narrow-minded and often super-Christian people have seemingly allergic reactions to contraceptives (why do you think our schools only teach abstinence?), and view abortion as the most vile of sins. Sometimes an abortion is necessary or at least preferred - such as rape cases or instances where the baby could kill the mother. Overturning Roe v. Wade would make it incredibly hard for these women to do what is necessary for themselves. It's not always a matter of being what you consider responsible.
As I said in my original post, I am not a fan of abortion. I do not believe that is a moral or correct thing to do. BUT (and this is a really big but), someone else having an abortion has no effect on me whatsoever so I don't believe it should be illegal. An abortion is not a crime against another person (science/doctors says a fetus is a fetus until after the first trimester and is not a human, so don't throw your "but it's killing a baby" argument at me. It's not) - they are not raping someone else, robbing someone else, abusing someone else. What another woman does with her own body is not up to me to decide, and it should not be up to you, your neighbor, Bob in Indiana, or even our President or Supreme Court to decide. They haven't made it illegal to smoke yet, and that's worse for the individual and for the people around them, so why make something that harms no one illegal?
I am finding it harder and harder to not puke. McCain thinks women are the dumbest people in the planet. I find this woman more than repugnant. This is horrific.
McCain just treated Hillary's career as "nothing". Does our world class Ivy League schools mean anything? There are reason's Harvard, Yale, etc. cost a fortune and they are hard work. I hated college and dropped out because I couldn't stand it. It's hard work. So breeding and having children are the same as a world class education?
Is he kidding? Really? I have now contributed to Hillary and Obama in hope that something will happen. I think I'll contribute to Bob Barr too because I would rather have him than a sick old guy with a beauty queen. I will not be able to sleep tonight because next monkeys will be able to do surgeries. How about I drive a 747? Anyone want on? Heck, I'm a woman! I'm cute too! I know how to shoot rifles and pistols too, I am an excellent shot too. I had over a hundred employess work for me, won top awards, millions in inventory, my employees LOVED me, so that means I be President too? Fly a 747? Heck, brain surgery anyone?
By the way, so let us all have every unwanted baby. Oh wait! We already have unwanted babies! I don't see anyone lining up to adopt all the homeless kids, all the ones with problems. But every time someone is raped or incest this woman thinks all woman can suffer with that forever and ruin our lives and risk our health???
Can anyone else out there hear me??? Am I alone in my panic and disgust here?
Anyone out there???

McCain pick of Sarah Plain is a distraction. Democrats need to stop focusing Sarah Plain not having experience on foreign policy. This is not the issue McCain has the forign policy experience. This only opens the door to attack Obama
McCain only choose Sarah as an attempt to divide men and women now that he have divided black and white. Sarah Plain is suppose to appeal to successful white people and women by being your typical white women who learned how to maneuver the devils system as it is .

One thing bothers me...Barack Obama calls McCain's Slanders distractions...and dems agree, but Obama fires back and its perfectly fine..grow up people...take back your country. Your all blind if you dont think this is just another power struggle...but im out of line here...go ahead and have your illusions of grandure. And its clearly obvious that the whole country must rush to their "Chieftans" aid. I say chieftan because Democrat-Republican battles remind me of Celtic Warfare. Fighting each other instead of the real invaders. Politicians themselves.
I've marveled at the MSM coverage of Palin. Many are missing the point. Her selection isn't meant to excite democrats. It is aimed squarly at exciting evangelicals, you know, the ones who elected Bush twice with record turnout. She provides the right a mantra of change of their own, something to get excited about. Palin represents to them the future of the party, and based on her ideology, she's their dream date. The dems would be well advised to understand the threat she represents in context. Her selection isn't about them, or even directly about Hillary. It will be interesting to see what impact she has on McCain's ground game. If he gets the Bush evangelicals mobilized, they'll be an interesting counter to Obama's youth vote. What a great election.
Kodiak Eskimos don't mind be called Eskimos. It's when you call Inuit, Aleutian, or Inupiat native Alaskans an Eskimo when they aren't one that some people become offended.

"Do You Feel Ready To Be A Heartbeat Away From The Presidency?"
Palin: "Absolutely. Yup, Yup..."
- 1 vote
McCain's first "presidential" decision was to pick a novice like Palin, who's experience amounts to being a mayor of a town of 6,000 and a year and a half as Gov of Alaska and is embroiled in a criminal ethics probe, to be a heartbeat away from the presidency after making experience the centerpiece of his campaign.
Obama's first "presidential" decision was to pick Joe Biden, someone with unmatched experience and international credibility to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.
Now which candidate has shown the best judgement in their first presidential test?

Don't look now, but the results are in on Obama. In the gallup poll, Obama has jumped 8 points in a mtter of days and now holds a commanding lead with a significant convention bounce. Looks like Obama closed the deal with the American people. No wonder McCain panicked and picked Palin. My guess is the Palin farse will increase Obama's lead even more.

What is Palin's educational background? How well educated is she, and is it enough to run this country in case of a McCain demise? She has started off on the wrong foot already. During her speech she stated she was against building the bridge to no-where, but she has been seen on tape fighting for it. I don't get good impressions about people when start of lying!! All I can see now is a moderate education, lack of experience, and a liar.

Some people just need to stay home and not vote this election!! Ignorance is bliss....I never knew how ignorant people in America could be until now! Look at it like this, if something happens to Obama we will have a man with over 30 years of experience to step up and be the president of the US. If something happens to MCCain we will have a woman with less than 2 years experience to become the president of the US?! You know we are an international joke right about now! They are watching this one closely....
On top of her trying to get the sympathy vote, this women's 16 year old daughter gave birth to that Down Syndrome baby not Palin!! Palin is lying due to embarrassment. She left a convention to fly home because of what again?!...Her water broke? Really? I thought it was because your daughter was the one actually giving birth!! No wait your daughter was M.I.A. due to an extended case of Mono?!! LOL But there is always those ignorant people that will believe anything they hear so don't believe me because what's done in the dark will always come to light!! One thing I don't want to hear again is that Palin is an honest person!! Lying to a Nation already Palin? Why not be honest about that baby? Is your family holier than thou?
Let's be honest here, experience is lacking on both sides so what's another important factor? Honesty. MCCain? Come on.....Palin? With only a day of knowing her she already has 2 scandals on the table!! And Obama? What a cheap shot to women and the American People. Palin is against birth control (not just a women's right to choose) Do you think that is going to attract Hillary voters? She's under investigation for abuse of power. Her husband works for the oil company that is involved in the Big energy plan. Sounds like bush cheney doesn't it.

In the gallup poll, Obama has jumped 8 points in a mtter of days
From Shortnews.com (but emphasis mine):
"After a survey of 2,727 registered voters beginning Tuesday and concluding Thursday, mostly before Barack Obama's acceptance speech, Obama has increased his lead over rival John McCain to eight points.
The largest lead in the poll Obama has ever had was nine points, in a poll recorded July 24-26. Obama entered the Democratic National Convention leading McCain 45-44."
I'll bet the lead would be even higher now, after his speech and the "surprise" announcement of Palin.
I believe "shocking" is a synonym that could replace "surprise" in that sentence.
On top of her trying to get the sympathy vote, this women's 16 year old daughter gave birth to that Down Syndrome baby not Palin!! Palin is lying due to embarrassment. Your are obviously young but never Hot or Smart....You are one of those people that are always set in your ways and always in denial. Do some research on Palin in Alaska....The government is already trying to take down pictures of her and her family because around the time she was pregnant she didn't look pregnant. Then she finished a convention after her water broke but wanted to fly back home to have the baby? She had time to do all that after her water broke and after having 4 kids already?! Anybody with common sense knows that on the average, labor time is significantly decrease with the more kids you have. Then she was back at work immediately after she supposedly had the baby. And her daughters friends at school are the ones putting them on blast because they all said she looked pregnant then was taken out of school during the last 4 months due to a bad case of Mono! Do you know what Mono is Young Cold and Dumb? If I told you, you wouldn't believe me anyway because your in denial!! After reading all the post from people that seem to want to vote for MCCain and/ or think Palin is a good pick seems to be complete in-denial morons!!...I take that back. I will not stoop to the level of name calling on here...They are just misguided towards ignorance....
This is a very good sign that the McCain campaign is think very clearly. My only regret about this pick it that she is not the top of the ticket!

You on the other hand are a typical leftist conspiracy theorist. It's more than likely Obama is a Muslin than Sarah didn't have that baby.
Downs syndrome is a common risk for women who carry a pregnancy to term over 35. Clearly you know nothing on pregnancy or children. Also, I didn't show until very late either. I guess that means my ten year old half sister delivered my son.

Not sure I buy all the stuff about her daughter being the mother of the baby - its a little much for me to take in right now.
However - I can say that her popularity wasn't 80% this month - it is down in the 60's. The tropper thing ticked some people off because it is such a soap opera. I thought it sounded goofy at first but the more I have read in Alaskan papers etc. it actually may have some legs. There have actually been three different reports that her husband called Monegan to pressure him and he made the calls from Palin's desk in the Gov's office when she was out of town. I know that seems minor but it kind of creeps me out that he was swiveling around in her chair playing tough guy while she was away. Its pretty funny too actually. Kind of like a small town power thug thing - considering that the whole state has only 700,000 people I guess the place is kind of small townish for a state.

I don't really care about the popularity. I just wanted to see McCain not selling out on his beliefs by picking another old white guy. She compliments his style and doesn't outshine him. If he wanted to pander women's votes, he would have picked someone else.

To the Young and the Restless.....Were you showing by 8 months? Anybody can have down syndrome baby. I know a 19 year old with a downs baby. I thought you would be worth an intellectual conversation...It's clear I was wrong....
To the Young and the Restless.....Were you showing by 8 months? Anybody can have down syndrome baby. I know a 19 year old with a downs baby. I thought you would be worth an intellectual conversation...It's clear I was wrong....
My first baby i was showing because I was 16, and my curves didn't catch up with my growing belly. My second baby, people couldn't believe I was pregnant. I could still wear about 90% of my entire wardrobe the entire time.
An intellectual rarely is a conspiracy theorist. Saying some 16 year old had the baby when there certainly hasn't been any solid proof or links to facts to support, is really dumb.

The idea that every little woman has the same impact on a glass ceiling in this country …IS DEMEANING 2 EACH WOMAN and should be denounced by EACH MAN.
Republicans … this is not the time to tow party lines. Women will leave your party in droves. Could you not get your Maverick to pick at least Condi, if it was a woman he wanted?
History will remember EACH MAN that supported this little woman to be on his arm with no qualifications to run a large population state, much less this country.
The idea that ANY little woman will do … for any position, just to fill the quota and to look pretty on EACH MAN's arm is …well fill in your own word
P/S Dear Sarah,
No offense directed at your life. It sounds so very sweet and really not that far from my own. However, we need much more than a bake sale to fix this economy. Out of respect to Hillary (since you said you had the up most for her), never ever pretend that you can shatter the same glass ceiling that Hillary has so carefully de-constructed to not harm those it falls on. To be clear Sarah, I must say that Hillary, Condi, Geraldine, Diane F. are no more qualified to shatter the glass ceilings I have de-constructed in my life's work any more than you and I are qualified to shatter theirs.
Best regards
A woman … a mother of sons … a leader of 2 schools PTA … a volunteer … the class mom of my adopted special needs son's class … a great cook … and a woman no less necessary than any other.
Here we go again....Young and Restless I don't care how different your pregnancies were, you were showing at 8 months, whether you want to admit it or not! And I have facts. How do you know I didn't go or did not have a child that went to school with this 16 year old? This story may not ever be unfolded but someone will at least attempt to expose her and her family for the type of people they really are. I was voicing my opinion on her and why she is not all what they are displaying her to be on T.V. You don't have to believe anything I say nor have I ever asked you or anyone else to. And definitely don't believe everything you read or hear. And please don't make me have to break this response down to you Barney style again.....
Would you look at that...Newsvine has another post you can display your ignorance on titled "Sarah Palin is not Trig's mom" Trig is the down syndrome baby for all those moro's out there...I LOVE IT!!! Go search for that one! Here's a lil bit of the story just in case you don't know how to use the Internet:
...at 4:00am, Sarah began leaking amniotic fluid. Instead of checking into a hospital, she instead made a call to her doctor, and delivered the keynote speech.
Instead of rushing to a Dallas medical facility that could treat a mother who's amniotic fluid has been draining for hours on end (made even more crucial due to the fact that this is occurring a full month prematurely), Sarah & Todd instead opted to... Fly all the way back from Texas to Alaska
The plane then made a landing in Anchorage, Alaska. Does Sarah then visit a medical facility that can accommodate a premature birth in Alaska's most equipped city? No. She drives 45 minutes away, to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center, right outside the small village she used to govern as Mayor, Wasilla.
Checking with the Anchorage High School that Bristol Palin attended, reporters were given word that her family had taken Bristol out of school due to contracting infectious mononucleosis. The amount of time Bristol was absent shifts from five to eight months.
Here we go again....Young and Restless I don't care how different your pregnancies were, you were showing at 8 months, whether you want to admit it or not! And I have facts. How do you know I didn't go or did not have a child that went to school with this 16 year old?
I wasn't showing unless I was wearing skimpy clothing during my second pregnancy. In my work clothing and normal clothing, I looked normal. I'm sorry it offends you I am fantastic looking.
That 16 year old hasn't had anything more than a little extra weight. She's been photographed many times. You definitely don't live in Alaska, you definitely didn't go to school with her or you wouldn't be picking on MY age. ROFL. You need a job.
Where did you get that information on Joseph Biden? Or are you just pulling that from thin air?
THERE YOU GO AGAIN MISSING THE POINT!! The point was YOU don't know how I know what I know! And since this story is blowing up faster than your brain cells...Just remember don't believe everything you hear, always do as the Martians do!! LOL
But I would like to Publicly apologize for stooping to your level. It is an embarrassment I don't want to have to live with for the rest of my life.....
Brent-320354,
Ann, you mean like when Obamessiah says "I dont look like them"?
Well, you saw him. Does he look like any of them, the presidents in prior years, in fact, up until this point?
Please, Biden is a dinc.
Explain to me exactly what is a dinc? The term is not in the English dictionary or thesaurus.
He criticised your man Obamamamma. Or don't word matter to dems?
If I recalled correctly, Mitt Romney criticized (correct spelling) McCain. Had McCain chose Romney for VP, as some republicans wanted him too, what would be your argument, because after all words do matter?
Palin WILL take many of the Hillary votes with her. And to all you dems criticising her lack of experience-she's the VP. Your presidential nominee is the on with no experience-unless you count going to an anti-American church, getting his house paid for by a fellon, and haninging with terrorists that is...
Obama will get many of Hillary's votes too. The rest of the quoted argument is not worth entertaining.
Keep sweating dems, the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter by the minute.
And repubs keep pissing on themselves. You're right, "the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter by the minute." Didn't you hear? That's Obama at the end, holding the torch, leading the way.
One thing's for sure, we do know Obama can write and articulate himself well. Word of advice: Try using the Spell Checker to catch grammatical errors before posting any further comments or questioning Obama's credentials, so you won't appear as unintelligent as you possibly are.

McCain is an idiot for trying to persuade women voters by choosing a pro-life, beauty queen as his running mate. I hear all this talk about how wonderful she is for not having aborted her down's baby, and how proud she is that her unwed, seventeen-year-old daughter chose not to end her own pregnancy. That's great, except that Ms. Palin is the the Governor of Alaska, running for VP of the United States! How much actual child raising do you think she does? And I'm sure her daughter will have a much easier time having a baby than the average teenage mother would! It's easy to have lots of kids and grandkids when you've got the means to hire someone else to raise them! This is simply not the case for most of us. Her issues are not our issues, that's blatantly clear. And shame on Mr. McCain for thinking that his eye candy is enough to distract us from the real issues of the war, the economy and the environment. How insulting!

Carl W, Joseph P. is right on but did not really address all your naive comments. Perhaps you are only 18 and don't really want to research some of what you comment on? wrt to the woman's rights issue; studies show (and it is common knowledge) that the Democrats are pro woman just like it is known the Republicans are pro life, religious bigots, etc... STATISTICALLY SPEAKING OF COURSE. Trust me, Republicans have a long history (and one recent Democrat...Bill Clinton appointed Joselyn Elders) of only appointing woman to embarrass them and wish you never saw another women candidate, as they will do to Palin before this is all over. They don't want to vet women for exactly the reason you attack "statistical democrats"..to push back womens' progress several decades. Your arguments are simply fallacious (are part red herring and part stawman), for example "...sexist of some of you to look at nothing other than her gender" is quite wrong to say/feel if you truly knew the history of women's/civil/race/labor/etc rights of the Democratic party. In fact, the Democrats almost nominated a "qualified women" who will get her chance in 4-12 years, not embarrass women, and not be hypocritical. Trust me, Palin will resign under "too much pressure and family scrutiny" that was the Republican MO from the beginning, and we'll have Romney or Ridge as VP nominee in November.
It's not about shameful Democrats but shameful politicians and handlers....you really should study you political history.
studies show (and it is common knowledge) that the Democrats are pro woman just like it is known the Republicans are pro life, religious bigots, etc..
The only women that democrats are "pro" anything about are the lesbian, NOW, special interest types that donate like crazy to their party. They claim to be for women's rights, but evey time one gets a chance to succeed she is pushes aside at the last moment for a more suitable male candidate. Just like the liberal media held off on the John Edwards scandal just long enough to let Obama get the nomination away from "poor" Hillary.
Also, why is it that if you are a Christian and believe in the sanctity of life and are believe that homosexuality is morally wrong that you are labeled a bigot by the democrats and liberals? Aren't we all allowed our own opinions as Americans anymore? Why is it only wrong if it doesn't jibe with what the DNC wants?
Your staements are laughable at best.

Sarah Palin is being investigated for corruption by the Alaska Legislature right now. What is McCAin thinking!!!!!! Or was he thinking!
- 17 votes
The "investigation" deals with a trooper being fired that was abusing her sister. I think she'll get a pass on that one.
- 11 votes
Graft is Graft no matter how you slice it! She could have handled it without using the power of her office!
- 6 votes
Apparently, she was unaware a telephone call was made. Nothing will come from your "corruption" charge but, if you want to trade corruption charges, let's look at Obama's connections to Rezko for a start.
It's interesting that all those supposedly pro-women liberals are so quick to bash a woman.
McCain's pick is genius. She hits all the right buttons -- pro-life, pro-gun, feeds into the anti-Washington message because Alaskans simply want the federal government to leave them alone which will also play well in other western states, she's young, she's done much for education in Alaska and, no doubt, this can also play well with disaffected women in the Democratic Party.
Excellent choice, Senator!
- 14 votes
She is being investigated for having a commissioner or something like that fired for not firing the brother-in-law. She has already pulled a Bush Chaney without even making it to the White House. If here sister was being abused there are programs set up to help her, and we do have a legal system set up to protect her. Programs that McCain wants to cut. Enough already.
- 10 votes
You want to talk investigations. How about Biden and MBNA? I'd say that's a little better example of the misuse of power.
- 12 votes
I am a woman and I feel insulted that he picked her only because she is a woman. Don't they have a better Republican woman candidate? a beauty queen? with a bachelor's degree in journalism? he is 72 with a history of cancer and obvious senility and is OK for her to be president? He does not get it and does not understands what is happening. People are tired of politics as usual. Obama picked someone that will help him and will be a good partner. McCain picked a puppet, a face and a facade.
- 22 votes
Rational Poster states The "investigation" deals with a trooper being fired that was abusing her sister. I think she'll get a pass on that one.
Ok, no one should be abused but you let the legal process take course and NOT abuse your authority to make things happen. You just dont do this and this is what Cheney has been doing for years in the White House (abusing his authority) and now McCain picks someone, who he has been fighting against (as far him downing Obama in reference to experience) and then picks this women with less experience to Obama and one that abuses her power. This just reinforces the same that is in the White House now.
McCain is a idiot if he thinks that all of us women are so stupid that we would just choose someone for President just because she is a women. This is the biggest scam I have ever seen in my life and insults womens intelligence. She can not EVEN begin to compare herself with Hillary Clinton.
- 7 votes
True, she has a happy marriage and faithful husband, ethical intergrity, common sense, not politically in anyones pocket. Yep, Can't compare to Billary at all. Ooops, Hillary.

Kim1,
Rational Poster states The "investigation" deals with a trooper being fired that was abusing her sister. I think she'll get a pass on that one
Actually the media put this one out there and suggested she would get a free pass out of jail. I also feel just because she's governor doesn't earn her the right to use her position to evade following our legal processes and to take matters into her own hands. A violation is violation and I don't care who commits it. But, this is the republicans' MO for years and by any means should this surprise us. McCain has a reputation for being a womanizer, and therefore, it shouldn't astound us that he chooses a woman VP solely to win women votes, either. He thinks we're imbeciles and don't see the forest for the trees anyhow (I think this is how it goes, but hopefully readers get the gist).
- 5 votes
Kim - you know what your right but sadly there are women out there that don't really care about the real problem and will vote for McCain just because there is a woman on his side for VP. Just as there are thousands out there that will vote for McCain just because Obama is black. Our society has transformed into one big popularity contest and fashion show. The Hillary supporters that will now vote Republican just b/c there is a woman on the ticket are clearly what Hillary described as voting for her and not what she really stands for. Our country is so screwed up and sadly only a few can get passed the color and gender lines to think rationally. It's definitely going to be a very interesting next 4 years no matter who wins.
- 4 votes
lilegend you got it right, and what I said in my last comment.
- 1 vote
Ann for truth,
I was quoting what rational poster stated here on this blog. Me and you agree. I disagreed with what this person was saying.
lilegend, thanks for your insight. I am just really pissed off that John McCain in using a woman to get elected. Its as if he thinks that Hillary supporters were only supporting her because she was a woman. This is not the case and he really is showing how he will do anything. I as a woman would love to see a woman in office but not just throwing someone in there for election purposes. Hillary is a legend in her own right and McCain is trashing woman by saying we are so stupid that we dont care about our country, or the issues, just that we as women just want to see a woman in the White House.
Leaving all politics aside, this is why I disagree with his choice.

Politick tick tick-
True, she has a happy marriage and faithful husband, ethical intergrity, common sense, not politically in anyones pocket.
So you don't think it's possible being married to an oil man or serving as Governor of Alaska has even the most remote of chances that she could be corrupted by oil money? If that's the case and I strongly suggest 2 years is plenty of time to become corrupted by oil corporations that have a big interest in the state of Alaska.
We've had oil people in the White House for 8 years and the prices went up and up and up under their leadership. I personally have no desire to see another oil person in the White House ever again.

well stated Kim. You don't have to be a woman to be disheartened by McCain's assumptions about women voters.

How can you make statements like this - unsupported - you read a few words and then speculate. She said to bring on the investigation she had nothing to hide! If this is Palin's corruption - she has my vote! Believe me there is allot more corruption going on in this Great Nation - then getting someone fired. Oh yes and add to that corruption list she tried marijuana. Get a grip America - next thing you know the Democrats will be finding corruption when she was on the PTO.

I am tired of hearing that Palin has executive experience. This is Alaska, it is like no other state. Things go on here that no one would ever believe. I can guarantee that Obama has a better idea of what goes on at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. than she can wrap her pretty little head around. I love that everyone is praising what she has done for Alaska. Can someone please look in to what she has done for rural Alaska? I wonder if McCain is aware that there are people in the US who live without running water? Who carry buckets of human waste across a dirt road and dump it into a ditch because they don't have indoor plumbing? What has Palin done for those Alaskans? Oh, that's right she is giving all Alaskans an extra $1200 to help with energy. Has she taken the time to look into why the energy prices are so out of control? No! She is just throwing money at the problem and hoping that no one looks at rural Alaska, the dirty and poor child of the state.
- 13 votes
Do some research before you post!!! She has welcomed this investigation. It has been brought against her by one of the many corrupt politician that she put in their place. If she is so corrupt how is it that she is the most popular Gov. in the country. Her approval rating is well over 80%. Her husband is a union worker, she is a former union worker, and she has more executive experience than anyone else in this race. She is a mother of five children, one of whom is leaving for Iraq in less than a month. I can't understand why feminists are so against her, she is a terrific example of what a woman can accomplish in this country. She has been underestimated her whole life and if the Dems underestimate her, they will be very disappointed with the outcome!!

I guess you have failed to mention that the Officer in question is also under investgation for tasing an 11 year old...but that would be to hard for you to put down.
Dream on...obama is going down, he got a man on his ticket to write his foreign policy for him since he has no idea on how to do it. Obama has no chance to attemp a "change" in increasing Government spending 1 trillion dollars, destroying our Health Care System and increasing our Government by ten fold. Interesting how people want to orientate on her husband who "works" for BP and the fact that she was a beauty queen.
Not that she didn'nt have freindships with an unrepentant terrorist Bill ayers
Like Obama does
Didn't go to a racist church for 20 years and then be forced to denounce it once it effected the run for President
Like Obama did
She actually was a mayor and a Governer instead of a "community organizer"
Like Obama was
Has crossed the aisle and attacked her own party for being corrupt
Has Obama done anything while in the US Senate?
Once again, the fear comes out, you Democrats say McCain is old but Biden has been in the Senate longer yet there isn't a problem with that.
You say that you want fresh faces and a new start, without the "DC polotics" yet when McCain does the same you call him foolish.
You say that he is a "McBush" but what exaclty has Obama done to prove that he is different than before, would that include hiring the Clinton advisors onto his team? That's new thinking right?
Fact is you have nothing, which makes this a great time to vote, On one side you have "the first black President"
On the other you have the first "woman VP"
In other words you have nothing at all and you are going to lose, a fact that will go down in History as (AND I QUOTE JIMMY CARTER) "the black boy" is going to lose and all Americans that didn't vote for him will be racists.
Thats ok, I am fine with my thoughts, I could care less if he was green from Mars, his policies are flawed and expensive and I will never vote for him for those reasons, and not vote for McCain just because there is a woman on the ticket.

Justmyopinion,
in some ways I agree with you, and in others, I don't.
Someone suggested Elizabeth Dole. She would've been my choice like twelve years ago when they chose the wrong Dole to go against Clinton. Hutchinson's knowledgeable, but she's a senator. I don't want two senators in office. I want someone in the Pres/VP office who knows something about running an organization, and Biden, Obama, and Mccain all fall short in that regard. I don't remember if there are any other GOP women Governors.

Kim where exactly did YOU see Palin begin comparing herself to Hillary Clinton ?
If you are going to try to sell all of us your own brand of crap at least be a little less careless in the way you go about doing it ! Just out of curiosity have you ever been accused before of fueling a fire,or random gossip ?

McCain had met Palin only one time before selecting her as his VP. Her selection is a gimmick.

Rational Poster - all sides are innocent until proven guilty. Investigation may amount to nothing but you don't know for a fact that the guy abused her sister. They went through an ugly divorce apparently - all sorts of things can be said. Better to not make assumptions about that one either side - just let it play out.
- 1 vote
Obviously for those that said it was "abuse" you didn't hear the real live interview over the phone. The one fired was not doing the abuse. Come on. Get real.
- 2 votes
They will make this investigation disappear like all of the unlawful acts committed by the Bush administration. I am applaud to think that McCain would select Palin just for political reasons. I don't care how you slice it, she is NOT qualified. She only has a masters of science degree in journalism. She began her debut by lying. She stated she fought against building the bridge to no-where, but was caught on tape promoting it. I can't begin to imagine her in staff meetings, she won't understand a thing they are talking about, (not that John McCain would either.) Hillary Clinton was qualified with proper degrees and experience. So for Mccain to think that women were voting for her just because she is a woman, is a slap in the face to Hillary, and all women. As for the investigation, Obama was never charged with any wrong doing or any connection to Rizo. Palin on the other hand, interfered in a law enforcement case by using the power of her office. I don't know who vetted her, but McCain had far more qualified individuals that past the smell test, so it is obvious this is for political reasons and not for the welfare of the country. He picks a woman with a masters of science in journalism, no experience, and under investigation...is this the judgement everyone says he has? He thinks women are so stupid, that by nominating one, women would just flock to him, once more using women. McCain is a sex-est even voting against women getting equal pay for equal work. Come on, he is in it for himself, not for the country. McCain should also come clean with the American people and allow them to know he is on medication for his mental well being. I think with the world in the state it is in, we need to know we have a president that is of sound mind. Perhaps his other qualified nominees refused the position, having worked with him, were not willing to put up with his temper. I understand why he needs the medication, most people can't handle being in isolation for five days, let alone five years and being tortured, but that in and of it's self should have opened the American peoples eyes to something being wrong. The GOP was shocked when he won the nomination, and didn't know what to do with him, and now he has shocked them again picking this very under qualified governor. Has everyone forgotten the state of America? This isn't about these politicians, it's about this country, we the people. We need to regain our standing in the world, and we need to start taking care of home. I am often reminded how it took three weeks for our government to begin helping the people of Louisiana after Katrina, and twenty four hours to assist Myanmar after they were hit by a tropical cyclone, and they didn't even want our assistance. It took three days for the navy admiral to convince them to take the assistance. What is wrong with this picture? Americans need to wake up, it's time to do what is best for the country, and John McCain isn't it!!!
He only picked her because he wanted those Hillary votes.... That is the ONLY reason! No offense to her but that is my opinion.
- 14 votes
agreed, i don't know what the thought process was in this one
i guess because he's "older" what better than a hot young republican woman from Alaska... again I dunno about this one
- 9 votes
I completely agree. He only picked her to get the female vote and because Obama is black. If Obama was white, McCain never would have picked a woman to be his VP. This just shows the desperation of the McCain campaign after that amazing speech made by Obama last night. I saw another post about Palin being investigated for corruption. If thats true, I hope the dems ride that out for all its worth. I also completely agree with Libratine; Palin is a pawn, she is only being used for her gender, I would hope she sees that. McCain is against equal pay for equal work so I don't get why she would want to work with him anyway.
He also could have backed her because of the pipeline, as well. And even though I have no doubt her gender garnered her attention for candidacy (SEXIST let's come right out and call it like it is) there are other reasons she would be a decent choice for conservative Republicans.
No doubt, though, McCain picked her because she's a woman and that sucks.
Where are all those Republicans who hate affirmative action, again?
- 10 votes
And the Executive experience and the toughness and the record of actively opposing corruption and her core values and her middle class family connection and her energy record and .....
Brilliant choice!

Wow, Democrats are horribly sexist, and they get away with it!
It's like you don't believe there are any qualified women in the world to be vice president. The only reason women exist is to get Hillary supporters.
And, unlike Obama and Biden, she HAS executive experience.
How many states has Obama been Governor of? zero.
How many states has Biden been Governor of? zero.
I'm happy McCain picked a LEADER, not a career Lawyer/Legislator.

carl,
she has been the mayor of a town of about 8,000 people and has been governor for a little over a year.
Not exactly glowing credentials.

Executive experience, let's think about that. Take a look at the way the two campaigns have been run. How many shake ups has the McCain campaign had? And how many have there been in the Obama campaign? One is run like a well oiled machine the other like a circus. You can try to spin this any way you want, but this is a foolish pick by a foolish man.

Carl,
What about all of Obama's poor foreign policy? She doesn't even have any foreign policy experience whatsoever!!
I agree that she seems to be a good pick in terms of republican values, but if mccain makes it into the white house, he will be the oldest president ever...it is a DISTINCT possibility that she will have to run the country. And she has zero, none, zilch in terms of foreign policy experience.
I think both of these campaigns look a tad silly - obama, speaking about change picks biden. mccain speaking about experience picks a woman who has two years of experience as governor and hardly much more...and on top of that no international experience whatsoever.
Overall, I do think this was a good pick for mccain, cause it will help solidify the republican base. But one would certainly hope that female dems and independents could see through this choice as an appeal to women.
- 2 votes
I thought he was going to pick Condileeza. If he picked a MAN with the same credentials Democrats mouths would still be wide open. So stop it with the Sexist comments.

Tara460977...That is just silly. The Dem spin machine can't come up with a better argument than choose a woman to get the woman's vote. Are they now afraid of a Woman in the #2 spot. Just because Obama couldn't find one worthy doesn't mean they aren't out there. They are just out there speaking with a sensible voice.
It would be nice to see the DNC go beyond their own myopic view that people have no depth. It is bad enough that their own body of zombies can entertain more than one cause at a time, and maybe that is why they exist and actually get elected to and by those with tunnel vision.
McCain Palin 09.
With her record and accomplishment from a prosperous state, maybe she can be an example for all of those who have allowed their own states to fall into the gutter of poverty and disrepair.

txmom32,
You said "with her record and accomplishments from a prosperous state"
What record?
Palin was a mayor and a city council member for a small town of 6,000 people.
Which is about the size of what, Mayberry?
Her husband works for BP (the oil company). Shades of Dick Cheney!!
Her administration is under investigation. Accused of trying to get a former brother-in-law fired from his job as a cop.
She is a beauty queen, a contestant winner. Wasn't Cindy McCain also a beauty queen, or am I getting that confused with John McCain throwing her to the bikers for their "Ms. Buffalo Chip" topless contest?
This screams of desperation from McCain's camp, pandering to Hilary's voters. McCain thinks any woman will do, why not pick a beauty queen under investigation.
I am a Hilary supporter, and I am voting OBAMA !

And furthermore, for those of you who are bad mouthing Joe Biden, let's look at Biden.
Here are his own words:

She has been Governor for two years of a state that has population of aprrox 650,000 people. Roughly the size of Boston's population. Does that mean the Mayor of Boston is ready to be VP and President??!! I think not. Drop the executive experience credential. It does not hold water. McCains keeps saying Obama lacks experience. Well what happens if God forbid McCain becomes incapacitated or dies within the first several years of office. ( I don't wish this on him or anyone but his age and the stresses of the job take there toll). She isn't experienced enough for the top job. This pick was about courting woman and oil, which she has in here state and wants to drill for more. By the way her state is one of the wealthiest but they also have some of the poorest.

If that were the case then neither would McCain. Lets face it, its also about who you surround yourself with and the advice you get. I'll take Bidens advice to Obama over Palin's to McCain any day.

Milo64 & Ms Rhonda,
True points and could not have been better spoken. Im so confident that Obama/Biden has this election in the bag, Ill even give the Repubs a "Freebie"
John McCain should've picked Kay Bailey Hutchinson!
That's Right, if Mc Numskull wanted to present a challenge to Democrats in regards to picking a "qualified" woman VP, She was the ideal pick. Much more experienced than Pilades.
But OH WELL!!!

Where is the prospective.
Just in this bit of a thread we have: A VP candidate who was a mayor of a small town turned Governor of the most prosperous state in the Union. vs a Presidential Candidate that was an ineffective community organizer turned Jr. Senator for what 182 days.
The obscenity of that qualifications argument is: The Republican Vice Presidential Candidate is every bit a qualified as the DNC Presidential Candidate.

Rhonda,
What a political hack you are or try to be and shallow at that! I just want you to know that I have seen your posts enough to get a flavor for how you think.
You grab any little shred and think you are pretty good at spinning it.
For example,
Trying to relate her husband to Big Oil like Cheney. Her husband is a blue-collar guy for goodness sake - hardly a player when it come to Big Oil.
The "Investigation" - Allegedly the trooper had been abusing her sister. His firing is being investigated to determine if Sarah had undo influence over the decision from her Gov's chair. Either way, most will give her a pass for sparing her sister greater pain and abuse.
Your innuendo is disgusting and your fact-checking poor.
Lots of crap gets posted on here and people say lots of inappropriate things to get noticed or to stir things up. I think you care about this election but have gotten caught up in a self-proclaimed role and you are getting sloppy. You have a responsibility to advocate for your position in a credible manner.

Rational, it is called abuse of power. If this beauty queen is resorting to abusing her power now, what might she do when she really has power!
Mac selected her because he is dazzled with her beauty. He likes pretty women but just hates crippled wives. Great guy; Great ethicist!
And, Rhonda is one of the most intelligent and conscious posters on the vine.

Not voting for this woman. Don't know who she is, where she came from. Don't trust McCain on judgment. He is not using fallout politics. Just because its a woman.....come on!
The pick of Sarah Palin confirms my suspicions that this year the GOP is putting forth sacrificial lambs to face the Democrats in November...the GOP knows that this is simply not their year and they don't want to soil any viable candidates from future consideration...

Joseph P. Uhl, you sound exceedingly paranoid. You are using I.Q. like a sword, waving it around when the other person has a pistol.
So, you want to fight I.Q.'s? ha ha ha
McCain is just showing his desperation. He is pandering to Hilary supporters. Intelligent women (i.e. high I.Q.) can see through his farce.
Obama is showing common sense (not to be confused with I.Q. but indeed Obama is a Harvard graduate) by choosing an experienced foreign policy leader like Joe Biden.
Let's remember, however, that John McCain did not qualify for West Point. He graduated 894 out of a class of 899 at the Naval Academy. Bottom feeder!
Just what we need, another DUMB president (Joseph P. Uhl, DUMB means low I.Q.) and an inexperienced beauty queen VP under investigation for breaking the law.
- 3 votes
Rhonda.....darling.....lighten up. Your vitrol is exactly why I am leaning away from Obama. I am an "old school" Democrat. I voted for McGovern in my first election. We used to stand for something. It used to be that we held the moral highground. We were the party of the comon folk. Today, the extremests on the far left have hijacked our party and made it into an angry, hateful, anything but "unity" party. Unless something happens quickly, I will move to becoming a member of the independant party and vote for more mainstream politicians. I just don't understand why we have let things degrade to the point of "the few ruling over the masses.
- 2 votes
I'm sorry to say that it dose not matter what your I.Q. is when it comes to being President. In the case of President there is not just one person steering the plane, it takes the entire administration to do so. This is just the next piece of a perfect puzzle in the next administration! McCain has what it takes to be President and his pick for VP is an honest lady that dose not deserve this bashing. As for the corruption investigation...do your research on why she rid Alaska of this bad apple...Oh yeah, and he was beating his wife! One last thing...wasnt Biden the man who said that "Obama was in no way fit to be President"...I think that was about 5 months ago.
- 1 vote
Why is the statement made that Palin is only one heart beat away from the presidency? Is Obama not human? I would hope it would never happen but there could be a possibility that Biden would have to step into the position too.
Does it not make more sense to compare apples to apples, or candidates to candidates?
This seems a bit unfair. Also if Obama has a slim resume and wants to be president how can the DNC now turn around and say Palin has a thin resume. Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black.
- 1 vote
Let's face it, Socalgal, McCain is OLD. He would be the oldest president in history.
He has had cancer problems, and other health issues, including his state of mind.
The odds are much better that McCain would kick the bucket than Obama, barring any assasination attempts.
And Biden would know what to do, while Palin says she would love to be VP just as soon as she figures out what it entails.
- 1 vote
Rhonda,
We are going to keep calling you on your sloppiness and spin.
McCain will NOT be the oldest President. When Reagan left office he was 78. McCain will be the oldest person elected to his first term. Get your facts right. You use facts loosely to support your position.
What "Other" health problems with McCain are you referring to? More innuendo - your trademark.

Well Rhonda Rahn! It is who I am! I don't have the body of Adonis or the dashing good looks of a male movie hunk that's because I have this intellect and that is all I have, certainly you wouldn't begrudge me at least that would you? My I.Q. is more like a Scottish Claymore in size than a sword!

My grandpa is over 80 and he is still running a non profit just fine. And spending the weekends volunteering or going to the lake with us.
Also, he's in poorer shape than McCain. Grandpa is a bit chubby with a history of hypertension... However, it doesn't mean that he will or won't live to 100. More and more people are. Considering McCain's mother is still alive, I'd say his family has some good genetics. According to the CDC life expectancy varies on age, race, and how old you are today.

He should have quit when he thought Czechoslovakia was still a country and he couldn't remember how many homes he has.
No matter how McCain tries to pander to Hilary supporters, MCCAIN IS STILL ANTI-WOMEN!
Let's look at McSHAME.
McSHAME cheated on his first wife to marry his 17-year-younger mistress. (why is it bad for John Edwards but okay for McCain?).
McSHAME voted against women being able to sue their employers if not treated fairly, saying that women "need more training."
McSHAME voted against contraceptives being covered by insurance but voted FOR Viagra to be covered by insurance. Maybe if it were the other way around, abortion would not be such an issue.
But since it is, oh by the way, McSHAME is anti-choice. That means anti-choice even in cases of incest and abortion. McSHAME does not trust women's abilities to make intelligent decisions.
What McSHAME really is, is anti-woman.

You folks are so right don't be misled....this is common republican, win at all cost, politics! Palin is simply another republican handlers pawn (not John, he is too smart and needs to appear sincere)....simply a haphazard, non-vetted, joke of experience, first choice to show token attention to women as they did with Ann Burford and others. Trust me, this is their MO...she will be vetted, skeletons come out, resign the nomination; then McSame will look good (to those who really feel this pick is real) and then same'O, same'O, Mitt or Ridge will be the real nominee by next week!!! Bet on it!
I'm an independent to a fault (from NH) and I'm sorry but if my mother were running as a Republican this year I'd vote Demo....regardless of who they put up, Obama just happen to win the nominee. I'll vote to send a message as the country did in mid-term 2006! If I don't like what I see in 4 years, I'll vote them out too, but not 4 more years of the last 8 years, ENOUGH!

Horrible judgement shown here by McCain ... IMO. Unless there are 10+ million women upset with Hillary losing that will now vote for McCain due to his putting a woman on the ticket, game over ... Obama just won. She's unknown, and totally not prepared to be President. And yes, I'm a Replublican.
- 13 votes
I'm a Democrat, but I can't support Obama now that I see how sexist all his supporters are now.

Why don't you act like a Democrat Carl W! you sound like some one who has an axe to grind without a grinding wheel! My advice to you is to join the Republican Party! One more vote for McCain wont matter much.

Carl W you cant be serious. We are not sexist. Im a women and I feel like he is insulting our intelligence and using a women to try to get elected. I did not ever believe it before I thought he was genuine about helping the country but it appears that he will do anything to get elected. The bottom line is that he is trying to make women seem stupid like we dont really know whats going on.

He's a democrat, what a joke! You repubs lie so much you even lie when you don't have too!
So, let's see...a PERSON who was mayor of a very small town, then governor for 1 1/2 years, already investigated for using THEIR political clout to force a cabinet member to fire someone strictly as an act of vengence, has a chance to be president. Again, sounds like more of the same political crap we've put up with for the last 8 years.
How's that for truth, with no sexist remarks whatsoever?

Whoever replied above with no name, she exploited the fact that she was a woman when she gave her speech. I am not bashing her at all, I am talking about McCain, read what I said before stating what I didnt say.
One thing that is refreshing is that you are looking at the issues. All I am saying is that McCain is wrong for the reason WHY he picked her.
- 2 votes
Those doing the bashing had their minds made up long ago on voting for Obama. From these same folks, there is little discussion of the issues. When was the last time on these forums you saw a DEM discussing National Security, Foreign Policy, Abortion, Tax Code, Federalism, Immigration and on and on.
They spend their time on here thinking they are influencing the masses. Let them spin.
I would have liked Condi Rice but of course, that option is out given the unpopularity of Bush. Dole, Kirkpatrick, Kay Bailey - all good women are past-peak.
I like Sarah Palin as a choice and it sets the stage for a healthy GOP for the years to come.

Kim please speak only for yourself when you refer to women in your post. I am a woman and do not like being referred to as all women... when I and other ladies do not share your slandering views on this subject.
How do you know McCain picked her only because he needed a woman trump card ?
You write as if you have personal insight and info the rest of us don't.
I have spent the majority of this day reading up on Palin. I find her impressive and perhaps just the breath of fresh air Washington and our country really need to expedite the change both campaigns promise. Her track record although newbie, is impressive. Her approval ratings with Alaska voters is good ! She has made big change in Alaska for the better. She understands our dependency problem on foreign oil. Try reading instead of blogging, get informed and quit saying all ! I am a part of your all equation and I certainly do not embrace your views on Palin.
- 1 vote
Nice thoughts but with all due respect to her she isn't going to be doing anything meaningful if, god forbid, they get elected. Honestly - while she seems nice and has been a mayor or a tiny town and gov for a year and a half she is a serious political light weight and will get eaten alive. Again - not meant as an attack on her personally - just my opinion
- 1 vote
Kimberly,
First of all dont tell me who to speak for, secondly its obvious why he picked her. Its good that you find her impressive and ONCE AGAIN, I am not saying anything bad about her, I am talking about McCain. Read what I said before commenting. In addition, when I say women, in english it is a term describing more. Read the content, I am not speaking for all women I said McClain thinks that WOMEN are stupid. Get it straight before commenting. You need to know what you are talking about.
In addition, I think you need to continue reading and find out more before you comment.
- 2 votes
Also Kimberly since you read so much, did you read this part from this article:
"As for the prospect of her being vice president, Palin told Kudlow that she could not answer the question of whether she wanted the job "until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day. I'm used to being very productive and working real hard in an administration. We want to make sure that that VP slot would be a fruitful type of position, especially for Alaskans and for the things that we're trying to accomplish up here."
Wow, she does not even know what you are supposed to do as a VP. Oh I guess this is why he picked her.
- 2 votes
Which would mean women are dumber than a brick if they did. Since they control the pocketbook in this country the economy is first political ambition comes farther down the list. I supported Hillary also but I am fine with Obama and would not even consider McCain. Hillary's handlers cost her the nomination. That was a terrible campaign.

McCain did a brave pick; he has got guts.
I believe, Kim1, that it is insulting to the lady herself - Sarah Palin, that you take her as "just a pick to get women´s votes". That totally disrespects her work and achievements - and her intelligence!
Everyone does things here, for political gain - but to then say Sarah is just a show off to get votes, when she really has more to show for than Obama, I believe is false. Give the woman more credit than that - -and also the women voting; they will vote for whomever they feel can lead this country in the best way.
I believe in experience on the top, with freshness as a great contribution and advantage as running mate. The Democrats didn´t grab the chance while they had it - too bad. McCain has the balance right. And any attack from the Democrats now, about "not enough experience", is really throwing a hugs rock in a glass house! And careful, careful....so that attacks doesn´t get sexist. (Would they attack a man in the same way? They don´t with Obama, so....hmm...)
Wenks,
McCain did a brave pick; he has got guts.
I believe, Kim1, that it is insulting to the lady herself - Sarah Palin, that you take her as "just a pick to get women´s votes". That totally disrespects her work and achievements - and her intelligence!
McCain made a desperate pick, not a wise one. How can you or anyone else consider his chose to choose a woman for VP, who has little regards for international affairs, and I quote, "never thought about international affairs" a wise choice, especially with all that is currently going on in our country, particularly the wars, and soring economy. Are you going to be one of those voters who cry "sexist" and "sexism" when remarks are made against Palin, a woman? This is ridiculous. If women want to live in what is characteristically considered a man's world, want to fight for equal rights and equality, and play men games, than they must take the punches and stop pontificating "foul play", "not fair", and comparable quotations, because the arguments are invalid. Obama supporters are often criticize for playing the race card and disparaged for doing so. Therefore, leave the sexist card out of the game. We are all entitled to our opinions and no one is forced to agree with them.
Aside from any of this, the media made this claim first, not commoners like us. We are only responding to a claim previously made. Therefore, your argument regarding insults to Palin, her womanhood, work, and intelligence, should be geared towards the media, firstly. Secondly, and I reiterate from a previous response, McCain's VP choice is an attempt to capture the same showiness as some claim Obama has done and is doing. He chooses a female VP with little experience (sounds familiar) and solely to win over Hillary supporters and women votes in general. His own camp stated this in so many words as well. This is putting self and pride before country and lack of judgment to the extreme. Never mind the fact that it questions women intelligence, some of whom will choose Palin solely because she is a woman with little regards to anything else she can bring to the table. God forbid if McCain should kick the bucket and Palin has to replace him, not that I want this to happen or wish that it would. But it is something that should be given upmost consideration. My concern is does she have enough leadership skills to step in and effectively govern the country, though she has an 80% approval rating in Alaska? Governor, VP, and President requires distinct leadership skills, some of which are necessitated to hold the president title and successfully complete the job associated with the title, which Palin might not even possess. At least the other way around probabilities to do so is more promising with Biden. Palin is about as generic, inexperience, and not ready to be commander-in-chief (if something should happen to McCain and she takes over), nor is she informed on foreign policy, as some argue Obama is and is not, respectively.

StLouisMan,
Is it so terrible to wait for the actual story instead of all this speculation from "unnamed sources"? I find these stories to be sickening!
Unless everyone is lying on Palin and conjuring up identical stories, including she herself, I am not sure it is purely speculation and an inaccurate story made available to us by "unnamed sources."
Palin's catch-phrase of "openness and transparency" has been tarnished by revelations that staff members tried to have Palin's former brother-in-law fired from his job as an Alaska state trooper (AP).
Also, the governor of the only state with polar bears has adamantly opposed listing the animals as a threatened species, despite strong evidence that global warming has devastated their sea ice environment off Alaska's coast (AP).
And despite John McCain's claim Friday that Palin is a budget-cutter, the governor this year oversaw 6 percent increase in Alaska's operating and construction budget, fueled by a revised tax structure and skyrocketing crude oil prices (AP).

Do you consider the Associated Press and comparable newspapers reliable sources? Everyone cannot possibly be fabricating. But since we do not know Palin, personally, or was present when it actually happened, it is not our judgment call, nor are we reliable sources. The same holds true for Obama. The purpose and objective of these type forums is for us offer our viewpoints and provide concrete evidence to validate arguments and claims and not to discredit other people's argument and claims, based on our emotional feelings (albeit occasionally I am guilty of this). Emotions often steers us in the wrong direction. If we want people to believe us, leave out the emotions and provide some sort of retrievable verification from reliable sources. Furthermore, opinions are neither right or wrong; they're opinions and like the motif goes, "everyone has an a..hole and an opinion. Thanks!

Brent:
The truth hurts doesn't it. McCain hurt his shoulders because of a faulty ejection when he was shot down for flying to low over Vietnam.
Tell how he was permitted to keep flying after crashing 4 planes. Most pilots are grounded after crashing 1 or 2. Thanks to McCain's Admiral Daddy's pull, McCain was given the ok to keep on flying.
He wouldn't have been in the situation to be shot down over Vietnam(been a POW), if they would have grounded him like they should have.
I laugh at your comment "move to France". Soft sheep like you, who believe lies and propaganda, talk a tough game. We will never know if I would have been stronger than McCain as a POW. I'm willing to be put my life on the bet I wouldn't have "sang like a bird" for myself. Maybe to save fellow prisoners but not because I personally would want better treatment.

The kind of people who "would" vote for Obama JUST because he's black, yet have nothing else in common or know nothing else about him, are the same people who will forget it's election day Nov. 4th and not vote...

It looks like the dem women are saying that "You can't be a viable candidate for anything unless you're a carpet muncher!" That's pitiful, the demmy's are going bananas because a heterosexual woman is running for office. Not to mention those who are voting for him because he was a POW and they believe he was a hero.
Heroes don't spill their guts to the enemy to better their position. If McCain sang like a bird to save the other POW's, then I would have more respect for him. Instead he sang for himself.
I respect that he served but he is no hero. The real heroes gave their lives to save their buddies and protect America's freedoms.

All of you that think Obama is a bleeding liberal need to do some research. He is actually not nearly as liberal as you all think. I have read several times that he is the most liberal senator - however, if you do the research is doesn't pan out that way - any more than McCain is conservative.
American lobo, you are one of the most despicable people I have ever come in contact with. Watch the movie "When hell was in session" and get back to me. You wouldn't last 5 seconds in there. Why do you think McCain cant raise his arms above his shoulders? Move to France traitor.
Delizoisa:
Way to answer a question I didn't ask you. Well you didn't even answer it...... "uh the good ones". nice comeback. Anyone who defines themselves as republican likely does not agree with Obama's politics... so I was curious what Michael agreed with.
And my referring to that people only voting for Obama because he is black was in reference to what Michael wrote. He denied that people are doing it and I was just pointing out that that were. And you know what... its is scary because we should not be looking at skin color or gender when it comes to choosing a president. We are supposed to be better than that.
Obama struck out with his speech! He sucked. The only difference between this speech and the one in West Berlin was instead of saying "Citizens of the World" he said "The American People." I am a proud Republican and I not only voted for Bush twice but I voted for Bob Dole in 1996! Because Bill (Slick Willy) Clinton totally sucked! He not only gave away our military secrets to China, but he also propped up the Chinese currency in 1993 and look at where China is today! He also signed the off-shore drilling ban in 1998, so if he (Slick Willy) hadn't signed that bill then we would be using our own oil now and we wouldn't have to import %70 of our oil supply! NOBAMA, JOHN SYDNEY MCCAIN IN 2008!
Profchaos:
I realize you didn't ask me that question but I answered anyway, so I guess you'll have to deal with it. And it was a joke, relax. And just because someone is of one party doesn't mean that they can't see something in a candidate of another party that makes them want to vote for him/her (besides color).
I know what your post was in reply to, that's why I responded accordingly. You stated there are "many" people supporting him based JUST on race, and I'm telling you there aren't many, there are a very select few and the majority of them won't end up voting. The fact that Obama is black, making this an even more historic election, is icing on the already very moist oven-fresh cake for some, but those same "some" would vote for him if he had red hair and freckles, so I don't think there is anything wrong with that.
Yes, of course it's sad people take race into account. I think Obama would be doing better if he weren't black. Just proves that all though we've made great strides, America has more progress to make. But c'est la vie ...

deliziosa:
I was touchy on the joke becuase that's all I get from Obama supporters. How great his plans are with no real substance behind it. I have many posts explaing why I disagree with is policies but never get reasons as to why they are good from his supporters. You hit and nerve and I over-reacted.
I think there are more out there voting solely on color thahn you would like the believe. Racism is still rampant in this coutnry and people that are that are that passionate about race will defintely come out and vote to prevent him from winning. There are many voting for him becuase he is black... maybe they will cancel each other out. I think calling it so historic make it more than it is.
I just tend to think that people should not vote based on things that don't matter. Race, hair color, beer vs wine are stupid things. I'm not voting for him based on his policies. I also don't like his judgement is choosing his friends but that is not the main reason I am not voting for him. I think his policies are expensive and not the direction this country should go.
Finally, I don't think Obama would be doing better if he were not black. He is way too liberal to represent this coutry as a whole and I think people are realizing that more and more. So maybe the racists are not winning out which would be nice.

I know we are suppose to NEVER say anything about John McCain's service record because it is considered unpatriotic, but I agree with America in that being a POW does not a President make. It is an experience he had, but I can find no relevance to the job at hand. When I add to this that he did indeed give up US secrets, I would think it would be better to not talk up the subject. By the way, he seems to only bring it up when it can make others feel sorry for him. Example the houses question? His answer was I didn't have a kitchen let alone table for several years. Please don't misunderstand me, what he experienced was tragic and I wish it on no one, but it says nothing of his ability to lead the country. As for his ability to lift his arms...was that from torture or his fall? I know I am going to anger you when I say if it is from the fall, his injury had less to do with being a POW and more to do with a bad fall that could have happened anywhere. It just happened to be there. I would appreciate your not responding it you do so with a personal attack.

I am a supporter of Sen. Obama. You say we lack substance? I listened to Sen. Obama's speeches and I have read them. I read articles and evaluated his voting record. I have done the same for McCain. What is it that you are asking Sen. Obama's supporters that has not been answered with substance. I will be happy to give it try.
The voting by race theme has been out there for a while and the opinions are mixed, but one constant has been African Americans are indeed supporting him. I don't find that strange because historically, they have voted democratic. What I think it has done in the black community is bring them to life in terms of somebody actually black having a chance for the first time. I have no problems with that. It may be true for other minorities as well on some level. I find it interesting that we acknowledge his black heritage, but leave out his white heritage which (to me) is another sign of where we are in this country.
You mentioned Sen. Obama's friends. Like I said, I tried to do my homework before making a decision and I looked into the names connected to him. The three biggies were Ayers, Rezko and Wright. As I understand it, Ayers did some horrible things in his earlier years. I hope we are not holding Sen. Obama responsible for knowing a man who did awful things when Sen. Obama was eight. That to me would be like holding John McCain responsible for sharing a moment of peace in the yard with his prison guard. Then there is Rezko. Every news article I read about the home purchase, said nothing was done illegally. When this man was in court, nothing came up connecting Sen. Obama to anything. Now if I were to hold this against Sen. Obama, would I not have to question Sen. McCain's real friendship with Keating that lead to a real investigation of McCain?
As for the Rev. Wright statements, I went back and heard the sermons. I really tried to stay objective and I took into account that their culture was different from mine. I learned that the congregation is not all black. They actually have white members. I learned that Rev. Wright was being attributed as author to negative comments made by a white man (Ambassador Peck). I learned that the damnation of America statement was played to us by the media to emphasize a specific message. Reading it for myself, I understood the message differently. I speak only for myself, when I say he was trying to say that in the history of man, we have started war instead of search for peace. We must be careful because after a while, God gets fed up with man. So if America did not want to feel God's wrath against her, we best make sure when we are attacking others (as we all are His children) that we have the right. Otherwise, we can get attacked back!
I also learned that this church has at least 25 outreach ministries that focus on helping anybody in the community. There is a homeless, shelter, food bank, employment service, jail ministry, college scholarship program, after school tutoring, daycare center, they bring food to the sick, and so on. It really is a God fearing caring for others needs, church. This is important to me because we are talking about God's people. If we get nothing else right, I know as a Christian, we better make sure we judge right on this one because we will be held accountable for our exploitations/slander of his people. I have left out a great deal, but I know it's a long post already. I do however want to add that I took the time to add up how many Sundays in minutes Sen. Obama and his family were in this church. I then considered the length of tape we used to determine who they (the church) are. I think those of us who know God personally in our lives should be asking His forgiveness and stopping the slander waged against God's people even in these posts.

Profchaos - I don't agree with you but I did like the way you laid out your post.
I would suggest that you look at the position papers from each campaign - they have all the details there.
Also - I find it interesting that you have a "friends" litmus test for Barack but you don't have the same one for McCain - or have you not done the research on that side? Just like to point out that what is good for the goose......

I know the campaigns have flushed out the ideas and the policies to great detail. I know the information is out there and I have looked at it myself. I have made decisions based on this information. I was painting with a broad brush in saying that my dealings with Obama supporters are usually met with glib jokes and not much substance. I know there are many of you out there that believe as he does and are beyond the jokes.
I want answers to questions like:
How will Obama balance a budget by insituting universal health care, paid volunteerism, continuing war in afghanistan etc, all while cutting taxes from the largerst pool of taxpayers. heavily taxing the top 5% does not balance out with cutting the botton 95%. And if we stop spending money in iraq, we cant spend the same amount elsewhere because the defiect will still be there.
How is giving from the rich to the poor a good thing? I thought people had to earn thier way in the country. Why should the federal government provide for everyone. That's what the states are for if need be and the people vote for it.
I just want to know why his plans are deemed so good. They sound good on paper but I do not see how they will be paid for and the economy is not great right now so I don't see how this makes it better.
SM- I have my issues with McCain, I am likely not voting for either of them. The original discussion that started this was on Obama so my focus is on him. I will say I would prefer Mccain over Obama but again I doubt I will vote for either. (Obama is winning my state no matter what so, while I will vote, I feel kind of useless in this election.)
Jen: I'll address more of your comments later. time to go back to work...
Profchaos,
I suppose Obama will do the opposite of what George Bush did and does. That's one way to start the ball rolling.
It's not paid volunteerism. He stated if he invest in us (e.g. paid tuition), we must invest in our country via volunteer work. When one thinks about it, it makes a whole lot of sense. For example, if my education is paid for and I volunteer to work for free a few hours in a senior home, then the senior home saves money and can possibly hire a part-time worker and pay them from money saved and they would otherwise have to pay me, if needed. Iraq doesn't need our currency; they can use their own billions of dollars to straighten out their country. We need to stop spending in Iraq, because we should not be there in the first place. We should be focusing on and spending our dollars on troops in Afghanistan.
How is giving from the rich to the poor a good thing?
Obama did not exactly assert the above. Stated correctly, he said he would not offer large tax cut breaks to corporations that don't need or even asked for them and who are outsourcing jobs offshore. He further stated, in paraphrase, he would invest in corporations here in the US that provides jobs to US citizens.

I read somewhere that one of the ways Obama plans to pay for one of his plans is by cutting back on NASA expenses. I wish I could be more specific, but I don't have the time, right now, to look it up. I believe that an MSNBC article posted after Obama's speech had a box that listed Obama's stance on an issue and the problems tied to his policies. It was fairly in-depth for an MSNBC link.
The fact is that there's a lot of money out there that we currently give to areas that don't necessarily need it. Iraq has over 80 billion in it's reserve, we give billions in aid to Israel a year, etc. I'm not saying that are money shouldn't go to these areas, necessarily, if we had the extra money to give, but we don't. We keep borrowing from other countries and giving aid to other's and it has to stop at some point. It's the same as getting another credit card to pay off your credit card debt, or taking out a loan to pay another loan, except in this case, we're paying off other's debts by furthering our national debt.
Obama isn't able to achieve all he wants to, he knows that, we know that. But even if a quarter, or an eigth, of his proposed plans work, a majority of American's will be better off than they are now.
If Obama successfully re-distributes corporate taxbreaks to the American people a lot of people will be better off. And I would agree with you, that it's bad to give tax breaks to some and not others, if we were currently at a level playing field. But we aren't. The truth is that the percentage of people in the higher tax brackets, the millionaires that Obama's tax plan refers to, have been getting corporate and federal breaks along the way. They've had their turn at favoritism, and if the scales have to shift on the way toward equality, then I guess I'm okay with that. For a limited amount of time. I'm not saying it's fair, it isn't, but it seems a little late in the game to call out whether it's fair to assist some and not others.
This is how conservatives are tricked into voting Republican. The Republican party is not conservative with money - it's just conservative with the money it gives to American people. It has no problem giving money to corporations (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, per example) and foreign aid to allies, but it doesn't want the burden of addressing economic inequalities here at home.
Our government isn't conservative regardless of who is in power. I'd prefer the taxes I pay to go to my fellow American's and corporations that keep jobs in our own country. I'd rather my government watch out for American people than hastily involve itself in international affairs. Normally I'd say the Democratic party is no different, because it isn't. I personally believe in Obama and would rather be proven wrong than never get the chance to see what he's capable of.

ProfChaos - Let me take a stab at some of these - at work so can't go into great detail but will give you the readers digest version of what I know at this time - answers are between the asterisks..
***Universal coverage will likely be paid through a combination of things, using payroll taxes more than likely. Currently people with private insurance through their employer pay part or all of the cost through a payroll deduction. With a universal plan those deductions would go away in place of the other. Interestingly, the business community is quickly embracing the idea of universal health care as they want out of the business of providing this benefit. It could also be through a tax similar to the Canadian system. (i actually was at a party this weekend with quite a few Canadian's there and they crack up over the attacks on their universal care - they said it is great and the people from Alberta pay 27% in taxes and that is federal and provincial tax and covers the insurance.) The Paid volunteerism is actually already in place and would just be exanded - it has so many additional benefits that it is a tremendously worth while program. Check out the Americorps program - lots of GOP support for it also. Afghan spending wouldn't be 10 Billion per month like we are paying in Iraq and the period that we would need to be there would be much shorter. The idea, as you mentioned would be to get out of Iraq and have some of that money available - but you are right - there is still a cost. McCain wants to stay in both for a long time (atleast 3-5 more years) - that is your alternative. Raising taxes on the top 5% would increase the treasury substantially. In addition, he would increase the capital gains tax from current rate of 15%. This covers the loop hole that allows hedge fund people to claim their income ($15-250 Million) annually as capital gains income and then only pay 15% tax versus a top rate of 35% for regular income (before deductions obviously).*****
How is giving from the rich to the poor a good thing? I thought people had to earn thier way in the country. Why should the federal government provide for everyone. That's what the states are for if need be and the people vote for it. ***this is totally a philosophical issue so I can't answer this very well. I can say that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. You can say that it is giving from rich to poor but you can also say that it is giving those that have fallen down a hand up - it isn't in lieu of working - it is help getting out of their position. No country can exist with out some sort of social safety net - it just isn't possible to have a prosperous nation without some sort of safety net in place. While I understand your concern, your remark about the federal government providing for everyone is - quite honestly - and extreme response and isn't even remotely close to the social programs in place.***************
I just want to know why his plans are deemed so good. They sound good on paper but I do not see how they will be paid for and the economy is not great right now so I don't see how this makes it better. ****** I can't tell you that the main reason his plans are positive in my mind is that it resets the priorities of the nation in a more appropriate way. The focus is on helping the majority of Americans pay lower taxes (individal income under $250,000 annually). Keep in mind that Bush raised the taxes on this same group - the tax cut wasn't for the middle and lower income population. In addition, Obama's policies put more emphasis on creating jobs through Green Initiatives (helping the big 3 auto manufacturers retool their plants so they can product cards that are better for the environment - the big 3 were asleep at the wheel and they won't be able to afford to make these modifications on their own - putting hundreds of thousands of jobs on the line and risking pensions and health care benefits for retirees). In addition, funding R&D for creating new fuels and new technology is a HUGE program. It would put money into the economy and create high tech jobs that we need. It would also allow the US to create this technology and be able to sell it to the world instead of us sitting around and waiting to have to buy it from someone else. Its about time we start getting cutting edge again. This would include R&D in stem cell research and other medical technology. Its all about jobs, jobs and more jobs.
SM- I have my issues with McCain, I am likely not voting for either of them. The original discussion that started this was on Obama so my focus is on him. I will say I would prefer Mccain over Obama but again I doubt I will vote for either. (Obama is winning my state no matter what so, while I will vote, I feel kind of useless in this election.) *** you can obviously vote for your choice - thats the great thing about this country. However - I would encourage you to focus on the big picture and the future. We have a HUGE hole to get ourselves out of and it is going to take some big thinkers and hard workers. There will be failures and programs that may not work well right away - thats life. To paraphrase FDR - the only thing worse than trying and failing is to not have tried at all**********
Happy voting!
I will be first to say you do have great questions and my answer is only a guess of course based on what he has said along the way. I do not know answers to all that you asked, but if I do not answer it now, I will get back to you with one.
Universal Healthcare:
Sen. Obama says that we spend more money by allowing a person to be serviced in the latter part of their ailment. By allowing regular check ups to all, we actually spend less by prevention. Now I do not have figures on this but with a wife who works in this area, I think he may have an inside voice.
Paid Volunteerism:
I agree with Anne about the college /volunteer question. He has said that if we invest in students they MUST in return invest in service. It's on his website.
War in Afghanistan:
Sen. Obama says he will pull us out of Irag and send those troops to Afghanistan. So some money will be redirected. We will also lose the private contracted militia that are paid from another source. Then there is the money we spend instead of their own government. If I recall correctly, Sen. Obama said, they will have to pay their own way. No more freebies.
Taxes cuts:
I don't want to be misleading as I do not know the figures ( maybe some of you do) but I think it is worth learning what is the worth of the top 5% and what is the combine worth of the 95%. It sounds silly, but I would be interested in knowing. As I understand it, taxes will be placed on exporters and oil profits.
How is giving from the rich to the poor a good thing? I thought people had to earn thier way in the country. Why should the federal government provide for everyone. That's what the states are for if need be and the people vote for it.
I looked this up, but I could not find when he said this> could you reference it for me so I can discuss it in proper context?
I just want to know why his plans are deemed so good. They sound good on paper but I do not see how they will be paid for and the economy is not great right now so I don't see how this makes it better.
I think they are "deemed" good because the "sound" good. Look I do not know this man from Adam. I would say it is true that most posters do not know these men from Adam. Yet we make a decision. Why? Because we hope someone will do something that makes our lives better. Well, I heard what the candidates had to say and I do mean ALL of them. I compared it to my personal desires for the country. Obama's rhetoric (which is all we really are getting from them all) was closest to what I want. When I strip away the name calling and blaming folks for stuff out of their control, I am left with what they actually have said and what they have done. Sen. Obama's experience means nothing to me. It is just as easy to be young and right as it is to be old and wrong and vice versa) so it does not fit MY criteria. When Bush ran against, McCain? I liked McCain! Now he really does look too much like Bush. I read his voting record and found no support for women issues in his votes. I heard or read vulgar comments he made about women. He offered his wife up for a near porno contest. (Don't hate me) His time as a POW has no effect on how I choose a President. I respect him and feel for him, but I can not afford to choose ANYBODY based on pity.
I will add one more thing. I do not expect him to accomplish every goal but what I like is that he wants to try instead of continuing the same plans and policies that have not worked! So even if I make the wrong choice and help the wrong person into office with my vote, I will do so not because of who the man is, but because I what I hope we can be.

McCain/Palin ticket = Fantastic!
Some real "McPain relief" in this important election year!!!
- 8 votes
How can you call this pick fantastic? The main point the McCain camp has been trying to pound home is the fact that Obama isn't experienced enough, so he chooses a 44 year old first term Governor? This pick is a Hail Mary, the McCain camp knows it's the 4th quarter and they're down big.
I feel sorry for Palin because she's being thrown to the dogs. No Republican in their right mind should be happy with this choice. It shows you that Obama is influencing McCain's choices, and that speech last night really hit home.
- 13 votes
Think now... Do you really think that the decision was made following last nights speach?
- 3 votes
Yes, another great speech.
Still doesn't change Obamas partisan liberal voting record, his history of raising taxes, and his support for expanding entitlement programs...
...his association to rezko and admitted terrorist Ayers.
While I can't help but wonder if this selection is an attempt to attract disenchanted female voters (which I am sure is part of the decision), but her executive experience (although brief) has been impressive. She has confronted corruption, lowered taxes, attempted to eliminate excessive spending. I wish McCain was as conservative.
- 7 votes
Oh come on DallasConservative! I know many local PTAs mothers here in Plano who are more impressive and who could probably run rings around this person! You are grasping at straws....you saw how the polls were flooded here with voters during our caucus....every Democrat will be voting to remove the pile of problems Bush will leave the next president. And I don't feel a Hockey Mom will fix them...wake up and smell the cow manure!

Mike's been drying and smoking the manure I think. Viva McCain Palin!

DallasConservative,
Please stop the rezko and ayers associations. Those tactics really dont wash out anymore. Obama was not even MENTIONED in the actual rezko trial. Anti-Obama groups blew that out of porportion. The only reason Barak's name was brought up was because he bought a piece of land that was ADJACENT to Rezko's. Feel free to look it up...I'll wait.
As for the Ayer's "Terrorist" agendas, If William Ayers is such a bad person, WHY is he currently a DISTINGUISHED professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago? So, Please PLEASE stop taking things for face value and start looking up the information and THEN make an EDUCATED opinion.

Oh come on, ACinWest. You're supporting a tyrant! He's proven to be self-absorbed, male chauvenistic, egotistical (hanging on to days gone by), money munger fool and naive to what has been going on all around him. He's up there, not down here where a good politician should be. Remind thy self that politics was meant for the people and by the people and not the other way around.
I have watched him in action for many a year on C-SPAN and CNN and let me tell you how arrogant and disrespectful he has been and not only to women. His condescending comments, snide disposition, and better-than-anyone attitude has been displayed for all to see when facing thousands of organizations and people with real, down to earth concerns.
He was disgusting and disgraceful on so many counts. Thank Goodness he will not make it to the oval office. I guarantee he won't make it.

So let me get this straight. Obama is not experienced enough but if McCain for some reason is unable to complete his term, we will have a person who was a mayor of a small town in Alaska and has less than 2 years as governor of a small state (population wise). Not to mention I can't imagine that the Governor of Alaska gets a whole lot of foreign policy action. What a bunch of hypocrytes.
- 17 votes
right, and there is no waaaay! that alaska (no offense) has to deal with the crime, budget, and the idiosyncrasies of the lower 48.
For McCain to talk about the important of experience, this seemed to be a move due to lack of confidence

You don't get it...she HAS executive experience.
How many states has Obama been Governor of? zero.
How many states has Biden been Governor of? zero.
I'm happy McCain picked a LEADER, not a career Lawyer/Legislator.

By that measure, Carl, how many states has McCain been governor of? Zero.

If you are going to place a woman on the ticket place one of the experienced women of the Republican Party. Kay Bailey Hutchinson or Christine Todd Whitman. Both with experience that could benefit the ticket. Palin I'm sure is an intelligent woman and has apparently had a good start as Alaska's governor, but I can't that this particular choice of a woman on the ticket is nothing more than the desperate move of a panicking campaign. Perhaps she will pan out. People have surprised us before. But on first viewing it is a rash choice.

Carl W....don't you see the elephant in the room? have you read 'The Emperor's New Clothes'? Wake up and open your eyes...what a stupid question you asked on if Obama and Biden have been govenors...they were US SENATORS...can you spell SENATOR?
Oh, and Alaska's population is only 670,000 people for the ENTIRE state! Dallas has over 3 million people in the city alone...and we are a small city compared to the big guys....our senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson didn't even want the VP post!

Of course she wouldn't no money in that is there. This entire blog is laughable. All us American Idiots sit and let congress run amok, filling their pockets and friends pockets with money while the country falls apart around them. Housing crisis and home builders get relief before home owners? Why, more contributions. When will home owners get relief? When congressional friends have snapped up enough foreclosed homes to make it worth it. We sit and let the insanity contiune thinking electing the better moron to office is going to fix things? McCain is a concern, health and stability, the soultion Obama and Biden? Laughable. Change? Change what? Who reaps the spoils? At least this woman in her short time has shown a shred of integrity in standing up against unethical activities by her own party, her brother in law - Tasers his kid, threatens to kill her sister and father and gets 5 days suspension? The chief should be tossed, of course he was offered a different job which HE REFUSED. Good God morons wake up and think responsibly. Real change requires real action stop being lemmings and following the popular speaker, the Germans in the 1930's did that and how well did that work for them. Done.

And Obama's huge, lengnthy resume consista of what? 17 months in the US Senate and hanging out in Chicago with a bunch of low-lifes for the past 20 years?
After listening to the garbage Obama's "reverend" has been filling his head with for most of that time, I would vote for a one-eyed giraffe with a limp before I'd vote for a POS like Obama! oh, the chickens is gonna come home to roost allright and they're gonna roost their ass at home, the same place that the Obama's will be on November 3rd!

I bet you love "limp one eyed giraffes"
Screw the Dem and Rep. parties. They just bicker too much as do their paty members. Just vote for most intelligent and least corrupt candidate.
I'd vote for the more intelligent Obama even though he has less experience.

That seals it... if McCain/Palin gets into the white house, there goes Roe v. Wade and your right to choose, ladies.
I'm sorry, but I think John McCain's selection is a cynical attempt to catch the female vote. I am a registered Republican who will vote for Obama, although he did not choose Hillary as his running mate. Honestly, this VP pick only gives McCain a good reason to lose. I would have voted for him in 2000, but his time has passed.
- 17 votes
Bernie, well said! I am the opposite, A registered Democrat and voted for Hillary. I was considering voting Republican IF McCain actually picked someone like Mitt Romney who actually had enough experience to be Presidential in the event McCain died while in Office. Did he really think choosing a woman no one ever heard of was going to resonate around the world and astound world leaders giving any credence that he is not suffering from alzheimer or dimentia? Did he really think this would cinch his chance to win over Obama in November? Well my fellow Americans let's wait and see what Rush Limbaugh has to say about this persons credentials and experience to run the White House! Why did he pass over someone Like Elizabeth Dole if he wanted to shock every one in choosing a Woman to run! All I can say is Palin has her work cut out and Hillary you go Girl!!! He just lost all chance of winning over the Obama/Biden ticket!!
Unbelievable!
Oh I am sure you aren't a true republican. Great you hate McCain and whatever. Republicans who fundamentally agree with republican principles will LIKE Palin because she walks the walk of a republican rather than talk s*@#.
I like her. We need different perspectives in Washington. Obama has moved from "change" to same with Biden. McCain veered towards rebellion. I don't claim to know the outcome of the election like some pompous losers claim. But I do know that TRUE republicans will feel better about voting McCain now that he selected Palin. Of course she isn't Hilary, she didn't use her husband to build her career...

Seems like a strictly gimmick pick to me based on being a woman and photogenic. Stick a fork in the McCain campaign as they're thrown in the towel with this pick based on demographics and none on substance at all.

Sarah Palin is McCain's Quale... pretty face.....no substance.

Carl WYou don't get it...she HAS executive experience.
How many states has Obama been Governor of? zero.
How many states has Biden been Governor of? zero.I'm happy McCain picked a LEADER, not a career Lawyer/Legislator.
Uhhhh.... isn't McCain a "career lawyer/Legislator"? I mean, wtf are you trying to prove with that?!!
- 2 votes
HA! HA! Talk about PANIC and DESPERATION. This is too funny.
John McCain argued that Sen. Obama is inexperienced and YET he picks a running mate who has NO experience, she's from WHERE? Been Governor how long? Wasilla where? This is the person whose going to go up against Joe Biden in foreign affairs? Sen. Biden is going to EAT HER ALIVE.
Gov. Palin is NOT HILLARY CLINTON and WILL NEVER BE. If Sen. McCain thought that we women are that STUPID to pick just "any woman" to replace Sen. Hillary Clinton, he's LOST HIS MIND!!
NO ONE WILL EVER REPLACE HILLARY CLINTON!!! Give us a BREAK, John McCain is playing us women as STUPID and IGNORANT....in his thinking that we are going to turn our backs on Sen. Hillary Clinton.
AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN BUDDY! NICE TRY.

Agreed! He's using her as a pawn to sway Hillary Voters. I just hope all women will see this for what it truly is.

you hit the nail on the head. He thinks women are gulliple to support just any woman. How can they make such an incredibly naive conclusion.

Why is that? Biden's an idiot! Remember, he had to drop out of the '88 race because he was too stupid to write his own speeches. What a dull, dull loser he is!

Once again, a Republican living in the past. It is 2008, so much has changed, and unlike a Republican, Democrats don't fear change. And the VP McCain picked is full of the same old cliches and promising reform. Reform is making better, something the Rep's can't do.

Um, I hate to be the one to tell you sweetie, but Joe Biden has been in Washington since John McCain was a POW. That's not change darling, that's same old same old. Dull, dull Joe Biden and Barack Obama don't stand a chance.
- 5 votes
So now your gay, huh sweetie? I'm a dude and prefer to be called honey. You certainly are supporting the wrong party if you are gay. Look at the track record and McCain has voted 90% of the Bush values the last 8 of those 30 stale years. He is too conservative and those type of values don't really exist in reality. Same old thing over and over again. Joe Biden has not exhibited that type of stagnation while serving this country. So your saying McCain isn't dull? Are you a bowl of laughs as well?
- 4 votes
Obviously, all you women are looking at this as "just any woman" because you don't know her, or what she stands for. Ask yourself this question: What did you know about Barack Obama one year ago? He is a one term Senator with no more experience than Palin, yet he is the Dem candidate for President. Maybe you should find out a little about her before jumping to conclusions.
We often complain about our politicians being ELITISTS. Obama, McCain, and Biden are all elitists. Palin is ANYTHING BUT an elitist. She is the ONLY candidate on either ticket who comes close to representation of the people by the people. From what I can tell so far, Palin is the only one who is real in this race.
- 6 votes
So you are saying you would rather have her as president as any of the other three? Get a grip and get off this discussion until you actually know what you are talking about.
Wala,
Please explain to me how Obama and Biden are elitist? Do you even know what term means? Look it up first before you answer this simple question.

Am I biased or do I see more hollow insults, especially name-calling from the Obama supporter side? It feels pretty lopsided on the name-calling.
I respect debate and difference of opinion on issues. The name calling has a juvenile feel to it.
I wonder why it is happening?

Jeff Mauney,
Um, I hate to be the one to tell you sweetie, but Joe Biden has been in Washington since John McCain was a POW.
Biden has been in Washington for 35 years and McCain 26 years, thus far. Not once did Obama claim McCain was in Washington for a longer period than McCain.
That's not change darling, that's same old same old. Dull, dull Joe Biden and Barack Obama don't stand a chance.
So you say, so you think. Biden and Obama stands just as much chance to win the election as McCain and Palin does. Additionally, Obama stated albeit Biden has been in Washington for 30 something years, Washington hasn't changed him, which is parallel to his speech, argument, and call for "Change." There is a complete difference in the above quote and what Obama actually asserted. On the other hand, McCain claims to be a Maverick and independent thinker, but in reality, he shifts whichever way the wind blows. That's not a maverick or an independent thinker. The correct terms to define McCain are follower and manipulator.

Biden has been in Washington for 35 years and McCain 26 years, thus far. Not once did Obama claim McCain was in Washington for a longer period than McCain.
That's exactly my point. Obama has been saying his is the ticket of "change" that America needs and here comes dull, dull Joe Biden (Who has quit two other presidential races because of his plaigerism) who's been in washington for 35 years. It's the same old, same old all over again.
On the other hand, I think what you are saying about McCain has a lot of truth to it. I think he did cave in to the right (thank God) and picked a pro-life running mate that was his only real chance of getting elected. I don't really care for Obama or McCain. I think they will both say whatever they need to to try and get elected and that's just wrong in my opinion.
- 1 vote
He is saying his is the ticket of change because he is not a washington insider and he is the head of the ticket. He is also saying that because of the philosophy of the campaign.
You would have to be a fool to think you could go to washington and not have some sort of connection to the various branches etc. There is an agenda that has to get approved - the president doesn't operate in a vacuum.
You would have to be a fool to think you could go to washington and not have some sort of connection to the various branches etc. There is an agenda that has to get approved - the president doesn't operate in a vacuum.
I agree with you totally! It's the Obama campaign who would like us all to blindly beleive that Joe Biden doesn't have any Washington connectons. Remember the speech about how Biden rides the train home to to take care of his kids every night? Hogwash! Ther isn't going to be any massive amount of change either way because the senate isn't going to shift as much as once thought and we all know that the do nothing congress will do anything EXCEPT get something done!
- 1 vote
I hope you don't agree with me totally. The first part of that post was my earlier post and the second part I don't agree with - two opinions diverge apparently.
Whoa, the GOP is grasping at anything - ANYTHING - because they know they have no chance! Pick a woman for the Hillary votes, postpone the convention because of the hurricane ... right! We all know how deeply Bush and McCain care about the folks in New Orleans.

Wow, since all you libs are in full lambaste-ing mode, I must only assume this was absolutely the correct choice. Me thinks you libs doth protest too much!
And Sarah's under investigation eh? huh... unlike Hillary who must be squeaky clean. Except for Norman Hsu... Whitewater... Vince Foster... Marc Rich.... and on and on and on.

Exactly how dare a woman be conservative and have values? How dare she not march in lock step with the radical left of the womens movement? How dare she have a opinion of her own? Why she didn't even wear a pantsuit. If you choose a liberal woman that's progressive, if it's a conservative woman who doesn't fit the leftist mold it's using that woman to exploit her sex.

"They are just jealous because we are more American". Really?? I am a proud American who is sickened by how the country's reputation with the rest of the world has been dragged through the mud for the past 8 years. Look at the reception that Obama got in Germany! Don't tell me it because there was free rock concert or free beer since those two rumors are not true. Is Obama the answer to the country's woes? I hope so. He is a very intelligent man, another refreshing change, who, in my opinion is saying the right. I'd like to see more specifics from Obama. I've seen nothing from McCain that gives me any confidence that he can turn things around.
- 11 votes
God will bless this choice!!! God bless McCain! God Bless Palin! God bless America! It's as simple as that!
- 1 vote
Russ, I don't know where you're getting your facts. But there was a free rock concert. I keep hearing the word "Change" but I'm not hearing what the change is. As someone stated, it's like buying a watch and the salesman is telling you all about the functions but you never get the price.
His plans sound great, but where is the money for them going to come from? And don't tell me from the rich. He talks about how bad the lobbyist are, and then the lobbyist spend millions at the convention. WOW! what "CHANGE"
We have two old party's in this country and they both suck. But every four years both sides come out and talk about what they are going to do and never do it. So get in line with the rest of the followers. Can you say "Sheople"! Baaaaa.
- 2 votes
Russ, here's a site that show Obama with one of the Bands that play the concert.
http://www.enflyer.com/app/file_root/12392/EnFlyers/52242.html
Obama is very specific about the CHANGE he is going to bring about. If you are still asking that at this point than you are failing to inform yourself. It is not Obama's fault, it is yours.
Sarah Palin is a horrific choice. I knew McCain would pander to anyone with a vote but this is a new low. With so many more suitable female choices for VP (Whitman, Hutchinson, even Condi Rice) this was a true insult to American women, and we are not stupid enough to fall for it.

It's sad that you're such lamb and a partisan democrat that you'll support someone with no experience in running anything but a bake sale in South Chicago.
The Democratic Party is bankrupt to ideas and it showed with that same old liberal democratic speech Obama gave. They're obviously bankrupt with representatives if Obama is the best you've got.
He said he wouldn't be the same old Washington politician, yet is acting like every other Democratic politician. He's nothing more than another empty liberal suit.
You Democrats have zero ammo to use to defend Obama, because let's face it, he has nothing in his resume to speak about and it makes you all look foolish when you try.
Your all gripping to "change" like it's the next coming of Christ. The word "change", really, a word, that's all you have???
Sad Anna, sad.
Sad that you Democrats are so desperate to get a democrat in office that you'll support anyone.
- 2 votes
..Russ...the people in Germany and the rest of the world hate America..Why?, because they don't have a US passport....maybe they thought Hussein was handing them out..
Anna,
I would have to agree with you on his choice. But Obama picked a guy that no one wanted for president more then once. Why is he a good VP. He's one nut ball away from being president.
Also. I heard the "Change" speech. Just Words. As I stated earlier, he says he don't like lobbyist and they are spending millions at the convention. It's the same old listen to what I say and don't pay attention to what I do. But hey, It's O.K. Anna, McCain does the same thing. So you follow Obama and others will follow McCain and the nation with still go to @!$%#. Same game different face.
No one will tackle the real issues.
- 3 votes
Ignat - you are right that Obamas speech was just words. They will remain that way until he is elected as he isn't president yet. For the moment McCain's speeces are just words as well.
As for the lobbyists spending money with the DNC against the words of Obama - do you even understand how a primary for president is managed? Obama didn't have any say in the convention - tone, agenda or budget until he had the most delegates and Hillary got out of the race - that was in June. Even then - the DNC manages the convention not the Obama campaign - they just now control the agenda and the tone of the event.
He may be full of it for all we know - each election takes a some leap of faith - however - lets not tag him with hypocritical statements that aren't quite accurate.
For further proof - check his campaign donations - those are in his control and you won't find any donations from lobbyists.

sm701919I agree with you. But once something is said it can't be taken back. It causes complications for any candidate. I have read and listened to all sorts of false information about Obama and Mccain. But today was an area of pain for me as a woman. I do believe Mccain is using this woman to get the so-called voters of Hillary. It pains me that he thinks we as voters and women are so stupid. We aren't. We are intelligent and able to determine what is true and what isn't. And why can't Obama change this country? His campaign is not in debt as was Hillary's, and as is Mccain's. So if a person can do that he can straighten out the country's deficit and get us back on track, maybe, yes? I hope that people will look at what is really I feel going on and not be swayed by her so-called lack of experience. But then some people will accept anything if they hate Obama. May we all pray for change and acceptance.

Defeat Hilary, re defeat communism - accomplished.
Obamas speeches are empty like the concept of Roman democracy.
The party of Kennedy and Roosevelt defended America ? when? Kennedy gave Cuba to Soviets, Roosevelt stepped in to war only after all Pacific fleet was destroyed by Japanese (and only when Germans declared war on US per Japanese request). Few of Dems have served honorably in the armed forces, and only to pour dirt after the discharge.
Obamas experienced in what - the only achievement in Illinois he maid - that criminal questioning would be taped, in US senate - none, except O2 consumption in already oxygen depleted environment.
Palin has more experience than big ear dude, who's intents are not clear except to step into oval office at any cost, with mind blowing promises, which will never come true.
STOP SOCIO-COMMUNISM IN AMERICA!
defeat Communism, yea just vote republican!! I don't see the point of the democrats thinking they have a lock on the minority and female vote! they're willing to trash Sara but not Paris? so where do their objectives lie???

I can't stop laughing at this choice. It's so funny to see the wingnuts flail in their weak defense of Palin.
It's a transparent play for evangelicals and Hillary supporters, who want a, any women, even if she diameterically opposed to everything Hillary has fought for.
It is what it is...a desperate play by McCain, who knows he isn't in same league as Obama. More importantly, it goes right to the heart of the judgment question. He met Palin once and he thinks she's ready to be president?!!? I've had enough of leaders who shoot from the hip.
When she was mayor of Wasilla, Palin, mismanged a land deal for a sweetheart sports stadium that she wanted as la egacy and stuck a town of 9,000 with a $1.7 million piece of land that could have been purchased for one-tenth of the price.
This a gimmicy pick and it shows that McCain, rather putting country first, puts extreme right wing ideology and party first.

Shallet848,
You all are hilarious; but you're not one bit surprising... leading off with MSNBC's balanced coverage of both sides in this election.
Although I disagree with McCain's VP choice, as most democrats do, and support Obama, the above should not be any surprise to republicans or anyone else. The same holds true for democrats regarding republicans. But in regards to your quote, it is true that coverage for both candidates and constituents are imbalanced, depending on which news channel is covering their stories. It works two ways you know.
Well, as I have previously stated in another forum, like people, news channel commentators have their favorites too. After all, they are humans and far from perfect, as we all are and should know. Fox News, especially Sean Hannity, as you may already recognize, dislikes Obama to the core of his soul and is for the republican base and is a republican himself. With the exception of Joe Scarsborough and Pat Buchanan, (voices for MSNBC and Republicans), MSNBC are Pro-Obama. CNN seems to be a neutral news channel and is neither for nor against either candidate, in other words, more balance than MSNBC or FOX cable news. CNN brings on guests to do the dirty work for them and to argue points against or speak well of either candidate. That's just the way things are, though we are entitled to disagree with them. Overall, what can we do? Television stations are competitive and compete to gain and increase their viewer audiences and ratings too. It is not any different than what McCain and Obama and their camps are doing.

SM,
If the man is really about "Change", we would see it before he gets elected. I tried of excuses. He had time to do something if he wanted.
Change would start with campaigning. Lets see it from the get go. Not I'll do it if you elect me.
In the great bull@!$%# words of Bush. Fool me once...uh...uh...fool me twice...uh...uh...I won't get fooled again.

That's a great point, he hasn't shown any change yet, why only if we elect him ? It's getting ridiculous, if you beat these crazy left wingers on a point, they act like that point doesn't matter as much as something else....if you beat them on that point, then that doesn't matter either.....It's a pointless cirle we're runnning in.....they are trying to force everyone to vote Obama through republican means...the fear card...if you don't vot for him the world is going to end, we're going to have a world war....or if you don't vote for him you're a racist.....or if you don't vote for him it's because you're stupid.....there is no fighting ignorance.....it gives me a headache to even read some of the idiotic comments I see on here....and thats on both sides.....
Then why are you going to vote? Not to be a racist, not to be fearful?(remember MO says America is full of fear), because of foreign diplomacyLOL, or you don't want to look stupid. Why don't you vote for the best ticket that would solve our problems here in our country. People are desperate and the economy is number one. If we acquire our own means for oil we don't need to be dependent on others. They would feel the affect as well. They will give the oil away. And as for the Hillary voters, if John McCain wanted a women like Hillary, he would have asked her to join the repub. team. That was a stupid comment about Palin criticizing Hillary on her beliefs. She doesn't need to think like Hillary. I think she's more powerful than HC. McCain may be "Bushes buddy" but he demonstrates that he's not afraid to face change by choosing Palin. Now on the other hand, Obama went backwards choosing Biden. So what if he has experience. He is the same old politics in Washington. Obama needed experience and any way Palin will out debate him on any issue. So suck it up!!!!! Palin and McCain bring it on!!!!!

3. Be a Plotocrat...thought I was going to say Elitist...sorry hon, you don't have that much clout.

Some people just need to stay home and not vote this election!! Ignorance is bliss....I never knew how ignorant people in America can be until now!
Why not be honest about that baby? Is your family holier than thou?
Let's be honest here, experience is lacking on both sides so what's another important factor? Honesty. MCCain? Come on.....Palin? With only a day of knowing her she already has 2 scandals on the table!! And Obama? Laid all his faults on the table way before he became the nominee....He may not be able to pull off everything he says but at least I know he will try because he has proven to be honest thus far!!

If you don't care about Americans losing their homes and living on the street, I would really prefer you not to vote as a Republican, Independent, or Democrat. Only Americans have that right. At a bare minimum no matter what party affiliation you are you should give a damn about your fellow man.... and you're one to talk about substance.

here's the way I see it: The "experience" issue was a failed tactic used by Hillary--- it failed. Obama still got the nomination, because people saw beyond that. Now, the Republicans are echoing that issue and it won't be long until the rest of the US ignores it as well. It's obviously not a big issue because McCain went and got someone with no foreign policy experience. (sigh) I guess McCain's camp will have think of something else, because all these dirty politics aren't working for him. They're gonna have to stick to the real issues and from what I've heard from him, he really doesn't get it.

Try and follow what I am going to say. Katrina showed a city that sits below sea level it is going to fail should a hurricane hit. THE ENTIRE city is surrounded by water. Okay? You following?
I really don't care if someone was a Republican or a Democrat, losing your home to a hurricane is losing your home to a hurricane. You are nothing more than a Young Inconsiderate Harlequin.
Of course. I felt bad during Katrina. HOWEVER, I like people who help themselves. Not fools WHO MOVE BACK to the city surrounded by water, sitting below sea level. Also, I live in Houston (also vulnerable to hurricane Gustav) which is BETTER in a hurricane but not best. Guess which FOOLS are backing up interstate 10 which parallels the coast? That would be people from LA. They SHOULD have gone NE, but NO. They come straight to Houston. Did you happen to notice how high our crime rate soared after Katrina?
If you don't care about Americans losing their homes and living on the street, I would really prefer you not to vote as a Republican, Independent, or Democrat. Only Americans have that right. At a bare minimum no matter what party affiliation you are you should give a damn about your fellow man.... and you're one to talk about substance.
An intelligent person would not have moved back to New Orleans. I am getting sick and tired of all the BS. People all across America have lost their homes to horrible situations. I feel bad when that happens. BUT when people move back to an area that's highly vulnerable to devastating floods... Um, that's completely insane. Especially which global warming possibly raising sea levels. I don't know why people are so dumb. I feel sorry for people when something bad happens, sure. But when they deliberately put themselves in harm's way, not so much.
- 2 votes
I am guessing you were already voting for McCain anyway so it doesn't bother me that you are this confused about things.
YHS I have no problem following what your saying. Why don't you try and understand that your comments are distasteful and lack forethought because of the following:
1) First you say that Katrina victims should no when to call it quits and move somewhere else. Then you criticize them for moving to where you live. How backwards is that? They have to live somewhere. Basically you are saying they should go anywhere but nowhere near you. Classic NIMBY.
2) You're tired of all of the BS. Well why don't you do something to help change the situation? Doing nothing yet being perpetually "tired of all the BS" is equally nonsensical.
3) As for people putting themselves in harms way, the last major hurricane that prompted examination of New Orleans' levee system was in 1965. So the chances of not many people remembering that and moving there is quite high. Also leaving New Orleans to the water would be the same to some as leaving Kansas to tornadoes. Good idea but not likely to happen.
1) First you say that Katrina victims should no when to call it quits and move somewhere else. Then you criticize them for moving to where you live. How backwards is that? They have to live somewhere. Basically you are saying they should go anywhere but nowhere near you. Classic NIMBY.
You definitely don't keep up on current events. They shouldn't move back to NO. HOWEVER, 200K already came to Houston in '05 and are straining our infrastructure. I guess since it's not in your backyard, it doesn't matter. That's fine. But ask any Houstonian what happened and you'll see. Our Mayor sealed off the Astrodome and told NO not to come here FOR GOOD REASON. So apparently a whole city feels like I do. Get a clue.
2) You're tired of all of the BS. Well why don't you do something to help change the situation? Doing nothing yet being perpetually "tired of all the BS" is equally nonsensical.
What am I going to do about it? Grab a 12 gauge and sit outside my door? Houstonians have demanded action and I am one of them. Countless correspondence to my city officials. They are trying to respond to the insanity, but it's hell for those here who are hardworking and honest.
New Orleans sits in a hurricane prone area. Now most scientists conclude that for a couple of decades before '05, the storm season was fairly quiet in the gulf. That doesn't change how far NO sits below sea level and the levee system that is required to constantly pump rain out each time a hard rain comes. NO isn't only threatened by hurricanes. Heavy rains, river flooding, and wetter than average years... You must live in New York or something. The odds a tornado will destroy your home in Kansas are MUCH lower than your home in New Orleans flooding.

People just can't not come to grasp why America would want to put a Black man in the oval office!! The majority of people voting for him is white!! So don't play that putting him in office because he is black BS over here because it won't work. African Americans are a minority, the majority wins. People are in denial that white people are the ones actually voting for Obama!! Those are the people that show intelligence and are not looking at color but looking at the failed presidency of Bush and do not want to continue on that same path to destruction. The person that is going to bring about that change just happened to be of black descent. If he was white then he would be the choice....But let's not forget that Obama is not 100% African American. He had no affiliation with his African side of his family. His dad was in his life for a month. He was raised by his Caucasian mother and Caucasian grandparents. So he is in touch with his white and black roots. Lay off the color factor because you don't want to go there. Would it be ignorant to say that Bush did not do a good job as a president because he was white and out of touch? Or did his actions speak louder than his color? Let's look at Obama's actions and not color. So far his actions has showed that he is honest, humble, very intelligent, a family man, a person that was raised in a broken home but still rose up, and experienced enough to the point that people of all colors chose him over Hillary as the nominee. Hillary voters need to get over it because its over. And if they were true Hillary supporters they would go with Obama because they are in agreement on issues 95% of the time. But to throw your support to the other side shows alternative motives that only God will know and will judge......

So I should vote for him over mccain why? To prove I'm not racist? Won't fly because it would be racist for me to vote because of someones race.
Not all white people are racists. Most of us don't fricken care. See also: My husband. Mixed race.

There you go being ignorant!! AGAIN!! Did you UNDERSTAND ANYTHING I said? I obviously hit a nerve because if my statement did not apply TO YOU why bother? Maybe because it does apply TO YOU. You are one of those people that are so biased you have to marry inter-racially or have Black friends in order to prove that you are not a racist!! You stated "it would be racist for me to vote because of someones race" AFTER I specifically stated "Let's look at Obama's actions and not color" And AFTER I said "don't play that putting him in office because he is black BS over here because it won't work." You even copied and pasted that part!! LOL Then you ask why you should vote for him after I specifically gave my reasons that had nothing to do with his color. But the fact that you even had to ask 'Why' is funny. WHY are you asking me? Do you know how to comprehend what you read? Let me break it down to you Barney style - D.O. N.O.T. F.O.R.M. A.N. Your responses keep proving me right!! LOL This is hilarious!!
YHS I really don't think you actually read or comprehend the posts people create. You just respond. Also don't tell me I don't care I actually was there a week helping clean up trash. What exactly did you do?? Yeah thought so.
As far as the race thing who in the world brought that up?? Wasn't me that was a different blog post all together. The fact that you keep bringing up race when no one really has means there's something going on in that brain of yours. I don't care if your boyfriend/husband was mixed with a yak you've got some issues.

Your name calling is going to get you a time out miss thang.
But I am quite pleased you found the period on your keyboard. Fantastic. You might qualify to be a secretary here soon.
Young and Restless Did I FOUND the period or FIND it? lol
One day you will understand the "Big" picture but until then I was just having a lil fun with you trying to get your brain cells going. No harm intended.
The best Kingdom to vote for is God's kingdom so pray for it to come. Until then we have to live under one Sun so chose your next president wisely.
Which is why I am voting McCain.
If I wanted to live in Europe, I'd move there.
I guess he figures if he kicks the bucket it doesn't matter what he leaves us with...she scores him a political stunt.
yeah this is a guy with good judgment.
just because she is a young woman does not make her able to deal with ...anything.
she is the most under qualified candidate he could pick.
period.

Um you do realize Biden has been in politics longer than McCain right?
This experience argument doesn't hold water for either side right now.
Of course he would pic a woman VP. John McCain would do anything to steer America away from the amazing Democratic National Convention last night.
I am a woman and I just see this as a joke.
I guess that McCain's argument that Obama is inexperienced has now just become moot with this choice.

shouldnt we compare McCain to Obama?
Palin has core beliefs this means more than a few years of expirence.besides she is not another Washington insider which i'm sure you all agree is Awsome .

OK I DON"T WANT THAT BLACK MAN . I WANT A PERSON WITH ENOUGH EXPERIENCE TO SET THIS COUNTRY BACK ON COURSE NOW AM I A RACIST?
OK I DON"T WANT THAT BLACK MAN . I WANT A PERSON WITH ENOUGH EXPERIENCE TO SET THIS COUNTRY BACK ON COURSE NOW AM I A RACIST?
So you rather have the same policies that Bush started for the last 8 years?
You REALLY can't argue this point, since McCain himself stated that he's in SUPPORT of Bush's agenda 95% of the time!
The Republican party is seriously in trouble.
Now to take YOUR quote
"I WANT A PERSON WITH ENOUGH EXPERIENCE TO SET THIS COUNTRY BACK ON COURSE"
I totally agree that we do need to get this country back on course. Thanks to Bush's misshaps, we are where we are today...a mess.
However,
Experience is NOTHING without good JUDGEMENT. Think about it.
When was the last time McCain showed good judgement. This same man McCain taking ques from AlQuaida AND George W. Bush that the Iraq war was the Central front on terrorisim.
If McCain has sooo much EXPERIENCE, why didn't HE make the judgement call to go send troops into Pakistan to get AlQuaida militants. Oh, wait...THAT was OBAMA's JUDGEMENT call. And IT worked.
Hell Obama KNEW that this whole IRAQ war was a mistake...We as a military and political entity has lost focus on WHO actually attacked US....It wasn't Saddam...No link to be found..and no, you REALLY cant' argue that point either.
